| Senior Member | so, as i've been living at home the last few weeks, my life has become miserable. Partly I think my job, partly living with my parents, partly dealing with the stress of John being on reserve and trying to live in 3 cities at once, partly cause i'm stressed about planning a wedding... anyway, John pointed out this weekend that I am basically miserable anytime I live in michigan for any extended period of time. We decided that we're not going to move back here at all (before we were thinking we would once we had kids to be closer to family) but our QOL here just isn't what it is in Utah. Anyway, before we settle permanently in Utah John suggested we check out Portland, Oregon for a year or so to see about potentially settling down there. There's a ski resort (mt. hood) not too far from PDX (about 45mins-1hr) so I could work there. Does anyone know anything about the city including good areas to live in, areas to stay away from, general cost of living etc... looking at a map it seems as though we'd want to live near 84 on the east side of Portland to make it a bit more equidistant between Mt. Hood and PDX... We're not sure we're going to do this yet, but i figured i'd collect some info and do some research and see what we come up with!
