| Hello everyone, I'm Debbie. I'm a wife of an American Airlines pilot who is based in SFO (which also includes SJC and OAK). We live up in the Sacramento region (a two hour drive from my hubby's base). We have been married fro almost 7 years and have a 2 1/2 year old daughter. We are also trying for a second child, but I'm 41, so hopefully it will happen. My husband used to be with Reno Air before they were bought out by American Airlines. I have been in the pilot arena since 1989 when I learned how to fly and obtained my private license. My husband and I met in 1989 (he was married to someone else and I was with a long time boyfriend pilot who is also now with AA). Though we didn't get together until 1996. When my husband worked with Reno, we moved from the San Francisco bay area (where I was raised) to Kauai, Hawaii and hoped to spend the rest of our lives there. He had a great schedule and was able to commute. THEN American bought out Reno and we had to sell our house and move back to the mainland. We couldn't afford a place in the bay area so moved up to the Sacramento Region. I personally haven't been able to adjust even though we've been back on the mainland for 4 years. We have no family or close friends in the area and haven't met any other local pilot people, so I hope I can make some connections here. It's been a tough ride since 9/11 for the industry and with the large paycuts and other concessions AA made their employees take, we have been hurting and barely hanging on. But at least my husband has a job. I didn't go back to work after my daughter was born and since I'm at an "advanced maternal age" and trying to get pregnant, we decided I shouldn't be under too much stress and go back to work. We decided to get in debt instead. LOL! I DO have a good sense of humor, which saves me on the bad days. Anyway, this is long enough. I don't get a lot of time to "computerize" so hopefully I can meet some of you gals and keep up with the board. Blue Skies Debbie |
