HI everyone! I just registered today. I have been lurking for awhile and decided that it would be really nice to actually talk to you guys. I think I may be the only Canadian member, but maybe I can add a different perspective.

My husband and I have been married for 4 years and just moved to Toronto in January for his job with a corporate charter operation here. He flies charters and medevacs. I am a teacher but am currently on maternity leave. Our baby is due at the end of August and it's our first one! I am very excited but also very scared DH won't be here for the delivery. We have no family or friends here and I feel very alone. We have made friends with our next door neighbors and they are my back-up to get to the hospital. Although I like them a lot (and they are expecting twins in January) it is not the same as knowing your mom or your best friend could be there. DH will not be overnighting after tomorrow, but many times he leaves at the crack of dawn and returns in the evening, so I am scared he will be stcuk somewhere and not able to return in time. We bid for his vacation a few days before the due date and then 2 weeks after, so we're all set if that works out. If it comes early, that's my worry. My parents are coming after the baby is born to help out, and then his parents but I don't want them here just waiting beforehand. That will drive me insane.

Anyways, I was wondering if you ladies had any advice for me? How did it work out for those of you with kids? Did DH make it? Were you stressed out? (And if DH says one more time, "Just don't think about it so much" I will scream! What else would I be thinking about???)

Hope this isn't the longest post in the world! Thanks for listening!

Welcome and congrats on your upcoming new arrival I don't have any advice for you in the baby department, we are trying for #1 right now

What do you teach? I am an 8th grade science teacher (Earth/Space science). DH flies for a regional airline and commutes from NH to Cleveland, Ohio.

Again, welcome to the board!

I teach Early Years. I've been doing grade one for the past five years. Oh, and I guess I forgot my name in the last post!

Welcome Jill,

congrats on your upcoming addition!! Do you know, boy or girl or are you going to wait and make it a big suprise?

Are you originally Canadian or did you live in the US and move up there?

I don't have any experience in the baby dept yet, so i can't help much there.

It's lovely to have another non-US citizen on the board... it'll broaden our spectrum even more as our only other active non-US'er (as far as i know) is Lurker whose originally british but is currently living in Hong Kong.

Welcome to the MAYHEM!!

trust you, me, this isn't the longest post on the board!!! hahaha

Thanks for the warm welcome! Yes, my husband and I are Canadian, originally from Manitoba but we went to school in the states. We are having a boy (even though I had four dreams about having a girl... I guess my mother's intuition is not working yet!). I just got back from the doctor and apparently it's going to be over 8 lbs!!!! I am a little nervous about that!

hehe everytime i hear "manitoba" i think of how my uber wisconsin friends would say it (i'm originally a wisconsinite)...

Mani-TOE-BBBAAAAAA....

hehe it just cracks me up to say that again!!

you made my day Jill, made my day!!

awww...8lbs is nothing (says me who doesn't even have kids )......while your in the delivery room, just be glad he's not like that one 13 lb baby a year or few years ago! that'll help you feel better....

know what the 4 girl dreams are about? big baby boy is already getting you prepared for a sister! I'm kidding....i don't really know that but it's a neat thought....

Welcome! I had a 9 lb. boy! And we had to call DH down from the skies! But it all worked out.

Whatever happens will happen--so don't worry about it. We're all here for you!

Welcome!!!

And congrats. I have a 14.5 month old little girl. This site was my sanity during maternity leave. DH and I induced to make sure he was home for the birth. He was on reserve at the time, so it made things a little difficult. As was said before, it all worked out!! Welcome again!

We induced as well! Thank goodness cause she was 8 lbs, 15oz.

Welcome to the board by the way! I'm Tanya, wife to Eric, mommy to Emily. I've been here for three years... this board is great!

Try not to worry about it too much. You'll probably be in labor for quite a while. There are signs well before labor pains, like you'll lose your plug, feel kinda crampy or have mini contractions (that's what I had for two weeks before we induced her).

Just hang in there, I know it's getting uncomfortable, but before you know it, you'll be holding that baby in your arms and all of the other stuff will be a distant memory!!
