| Hey Roz... I need you! With all of the scary stuff they put in milk these days (antibiotics, growth hormones, etc...)we have been thinking about switching to organic milk. But, the brand that our grocery store has (they only have one brand) doesn't say "Pasturized" anywhere on the label. Does this mean it is not pasturized? If so, is this like trading one evil for another? Any thoughts? Roz? Anyone? (and I just think this little guy is so cute!) |

| Admin/Owner ![]() | sometimes I switch from using regular milk to just soy milk (found in the vegetarian aisles)...I can't remember the type that i'd normally buy, but their in rectangular square bottles (not in the coolers)... gack! next time i go to the grocery store, i'll check out the brand name! oh well, for now, maybe i'll just do the hoho macarena till i get to the store! keep in mind that they've been putting those hormones, antibiotics in milk brands now for years and years...the only thing i've noticed is that the kids tend to grow faster. but maybe it's the water too?! hahaha have you tried skim milk? i tend to wonder if they put as much *stuff* in there as they do 2% or what not. Roz?? |

| Jason and I drink skim milk, but Ben needs whole milk until he is two (or three, can't remember). I know they've been putting that stuff in milk for years, but we are just now hearing the scary stuff about it. While I'm pregnant at least, I have to drink pasturized milk. So I can't drink the organic. But we thought we'd give it to Ben, but I'm concerned about the non pasturized. I have tried all the different varieties of soy milk and I just can't stomach it. I love my cow's milk too much! (I couldn't find a cow, so the elephant was the next best thing!) I LOVE these guys! |

| What brand does your store carry Jessica? Is this what you mean Kristie? http://www.horizonorganic.com/products/indexmilk.html It appears to fit the bill! Kristie, kids are getting so much bigger these days because they sit around and eat fatty foods sweetened with high fructose corn syrup and padded with fillers. My kid never had milk at all after I weaned him at 15 months. He's 5'11" and very lean and muscular. His dad is 5'9" so, I doubt that the lack of milk stunted his growth. He got his calcium via green leafy veggies which he ingests readily to this day. Remember cow's milk is designed to make a calf grow to 600 lbs. at one year of age! Oh, I found more: http://www.organicvalley.coop/produc...serve_faq.html http://www.altadenadairy.com/whereToFindAd.asp http://www.cooksillustrated.com/arti...&bdc=79872 They recommend Organic Cow of VERMONT http://www.strausmilk.com/pages/ourproducts.html Available at Whole Foods in Washington State and Pike's Market! |

| Admin/Owner ![]() | Nope, it's not the horizon brand.. it's one of those brands you typically only find at a health store like Hi-Health.... well, i mean bigger as in growing faster, taller etc -like 12 yr olds look 15.. 9 yr olds getting their periods - not necessarily fatter! hahaha |

| [ QUOTE ] roz said: What brand does your store carry Jessica? [/ QUOTE ] Organic Valley. I clicked on the link you provided (thank you, BTW) and it states the single serve bottles are "ultra pasturized" so I guess the gallon cartons are too. I am going to call their 888 number though to be sure. Thanks so much for your answers! YOU ROCK! |

| You're welcome. The pasteurized comes in gallons for the milk. http://www.organicvalley.coop/products/milk_past.php# It looks like the ultra pasteurized only comes in half gallons: http://www.organicvalley.coop/products/milk_ultra.php# Now Ben won't have to !!!! By the way, how's this? |

[/image] [/ QUOTE ] No, he won't...he's never had soft drinks and I hope its a long way away before he does! Jason and I have even stopped drinking them as much because we don't want him to grow up watching us guzzling that crap! Now I drink "Talking Rain" it is awesome! Anyway...I pulled up that website and looked at the ingred. for the gallon of whole milk and the first ingredient is: "Grade A pasturized organic milk" I pulled Ben's milk out of the fridge and the first ingredient is: "Grade A organic milk" so I wonder...I'm still going to call them tomorrow. Is it even legal to sell unpasturized milk? I guess it is...since you can buy unpasturized cheese. HHMMM.... BTW...where'd ya find the cow? |

| That's strange because if you look on the web at all their milk products they are either pasteurized or ultra pasteurized. I think they have different rules for cheese. But you should ask and educate us please! And the cow... he came from: http://www.bestsmileys.com/ ![]() |
