Default Newbie: Viva Las Vegas

Hello Everyone!

My name is Lisa, and my fiancé Nick is the pilot in the family. We met in graduate school at UNLV here in Las Vegas, and currently live together with our dog Jeter. Nick is a member of Jetcareers.com, so he suggested I sign up for Jetgirls. He has his first airline interview on Tuesday, so we are both very nervous/excited about what the next week will hold.

Being a former flight attendant for Continental based in Newark and Houston, I'm somewhat familiar with airline life, but will admit that this is my first time dating a pilot and experiencing all the things associated with that. I am originally from Overland Park, KS, and spent a good portion of my life living in Houston, TX before moving to Las Vegas 12 years ago. When not working, I enjoy yoga, traveling, cooking, flying with Nick, and relaxing at home. Currently, I am working as a Sales Trainer for a resort company here in town.

I'm looking forward to meeting and interacting with everyone on Jetgirls.

Lisa

Hi Lisa and welcome! I have a Nick in my life too!
What made you leave CAL?

This is a great site to get support and meet others who "know how it is". I've been with Nick since 2002 when he was a flight instructor in Phoenix. We lived in Scottsdale until he got hired at CAL in January 2007. WE then moved back to the PHL area so he doesn't have to commute and we can be closer to family, which will come in handy when we have kids.

Welcome!

Hi Lisa! Welcome to the site. I know Overland Park very well. Growing up in Michigan we'd drive to KS every summer to visit w/ all of my dad's family in eastern KS and western MO. We always stayed w/ gma who lived in Overland Park.

We live out near Monterey, CA. Fiance flies for Mesaba as a CRJ900 FO. He commutes to Minneapolis.

When's the wedding?? And congrats on your engagement!!

Hey Lisa!
Great that you found the site! I have found this a wealth of information, and in some cases, has let me keep my head on straight...I've been with my pilot for 3 yrs now, and doing the regional thing with Republic right now. We live near Charlotte, NC and have an overenergized maltese, Kenzie, to cats Moonpie and Pixie, and three 2 week old kittens! (we have a full animal house!)
Ask away and welcome!
Cassie

Nice to meet everyone, and thanks for your messages.

Hmmmm.... the reason I left CAL was I wanted a career change. I loved the camaraderie with the flight attendants & pilots, the travel, and the challenges of delivering excellent customer service, since I primarily did F/C internationally. But the high passenger frustration levels were difficult to handle. I was in my early 20s & just wasn't mentally able to handle a lot of it. In addition, CAL offered an "early retirement" package with a few years of flying benefits, which was too tempting to pass up

Not long after, I started in a new career in sales, working as a District Sales Manager for Royal Caribbean & Celebrity Cruises. Now I work as a sales trainer for a new resort that is opening in Vegas this summer, so I've never left the industry, I've just experienced different facets of it. I still enjoy great in-flight service & meeting the crew when I fly.

Luckily, I know the challenges traveling & commuting so I support my fiancé Nick 100%. However, it’s nice to have a network for me too.

Can't wait to meet all of you! Shoot me a message next time you're coming to Vegas!!

Hi Lisa! I am new to this website too. I am really enjoying all the different perspectives everyone has. I actually just went to Las Vegas, for the first time, in January on an overnight with my BF. It was a lot of fun. Whats it like living in Las Vegas?
