I don't know too much about Cathay. The only difference that I am aware of between Cathay and Emirates is the medical insurance scheme. I am sorry to say I have never been to Hong Kong although, I have heard it is very nice. A friend of DH is currently in training with Cathay. He seems very happy there.

Hello! I wonder if our hubbies have ever flown togther? Mine just finished upgrade training with ASA. I told him about this particular post and he said he did know someone who now flies for Emirates. I think it's awsome that you live over there, not sure that I could be so far from my family but I really thinks thats great! Sounds like a wonderful place!

DH was only a captain for about 2 months before accepting the position at Emirates. I don't think they ever flew together. I asked DH if he knew your hubby and he said that he looked familiar, however he did not know him.

Hi Bonnie - Congrats getting on with EK! My husband interviewed with them a couple weeks ago so now we're anxiously waiting to hear the news. I was surprised how much I enjoyed the few days we were in Dubai. I found it very easy to get around on my own and felt completely comfortable there. How are you adjusting? Do you have any additional insight regarding accomodations / work environment now that you're living it? How is your husband adjusting to his schedule? Is he exhausted during his days off? Thanks for the info

Good luck Jennmarie! We are enjoying out time here in Dubai and DH is very happy with the company. We can't complain about the housing. The apartment is bigger that our home in ATL and it has a much better view! Again, good luck and maybe someday I will see you here in the sandbox.

I know this thread is old, but I was looking for the scoop on Dubai. Though DH is still employed for now, given the events of the last couple of months, Emirates is becoming more intriguing every day. BStory--are you still enjoying Dubai now that it's been a few months? What does your husband say about the airline? What more have you heard from families with kids? We have a child about to start school, so that's the big question mark for us. Does it feel like a safe place to live? How is the medical care? How is life there the same or different from the US? Lots of questions! Any insights would be most appreciated!

I am still enjoying Dubai and DH is very happy with Emirates. I can't give too much info about families with children here. I know they are entitled to a 4 bedroom villa rather than a flat. There are lots of schools here and you will be able to choose between an American, British, or International curriculium. I do know you are given an allowance for the children's schooling but, I have no idea how much. I have been very happy with the medical here. Emirates has a clinic with the doctors, dentists, and pharmacy. You don't have to deal with insurance companies you just call the clinic and make your appointment. DH broke his hand about 3 months ago and they have taken good care of him. I hope I hit everything..... if not please feel free to ask. Oh the safety here in Dubai...... I am very comfortable here.
