Default New from Canada...

Hello ladies!

My name is Kristina and I'm 21 years old... I'm from Whitby, Ontario. That's about 1/2 hour east of Toronto, Canada. I am a full time student at University of Toronto in my 3rd of 4 years. I also work part time as a photographer and also selling photography equipment in retail.

My boyfriend of just about two years now (in May) has just started at the very beginning... getting his private license. He's training right now at the Oshawa Municipal Airport. He dreams of flying "the big ones" someday!! This is a guy who has been plane-obsessed for life. His grandfather was a WW2 pilot. He was a pilot for Halloween... and most of all, has flown model planes ever since he was 9. He went to college for something completely unrelated and was miserable doing it - because he felt he was "too old" to be a pilot. Duh. An opportunity to get involved with flight school sort of jumped up and bit him in the butt from his current job, and so... here we are! I've never seen him more happy or excited about anything.... and more depressive when it's horrible weather and can't fly (most of the time it seems).

Anyway, it's nice to have an outlet to talk about things like this... I've already read tons of your posts so I know what to expect! Look forward to meeting you all. Anyone else in Canada?

Hi !
I've been with Nick and he was 28 or 29 when he changed careers (started all over again) to become a pilot. I don't think you are ever too old to change careers, however I know the older you are the harder it is! He was making excellent money and managed 40 people at his old job (where he was able to use his engineering degree). As a flight instructor (when I met him in 2002) it was financially difficult for him! However he loves what he does which made him work hard to get to the regional level in 2003. Since he was a little boy he dreamed of flying 757s internationally so he worked hard to build time at Mesa and then was hired at Continental in 2007. I wish I could live my job like he loves his!

Welcome aboard the site!

Oh, you are never too old to learn to fly!!!

Glad that he jumped right in...my BF changed careers, at 31...he was doing his 'other' passion, football and really wanted to fly...so he's been at it for that past 6 years...

Well, I"m here in Charlotte, NC...a new Biology graduate and looking to start my own career and passion, in SCIENCE! hahah...

Great to have you here, you will love it!

Hi Kristina! Welcome!

My, or rather my fiance's, story is jut like Amanda's beau! He has his Bachelor's and Master's in Aeronautical/Astronautical Engineering (so sort of aviation) and worked in the cubicle world for a few years at Rolls Royce Aircraft Engines .... and dreaded each minute of his days. At 29 he threw in the towel at cubicle kingdom and joined the ranks of earning all his ratings, CFIing, and now a regional FO. And yes, like Amanda, I wish I could love my job like he does.

So I don't know how old your bf is, but the proof is in the pudding! He can march through it all as long as he's got enough determination and zest ... and it sounds like he does.

Hello Kristina and welcome! Like everyone else has said, you're never too old to start flying, or change careers for that matter. And I'm sure you've experienced that warm fuzzy feeling you get when you see him get so excited and happy about flying, so even though it's gonna be a long ride, it's well worth it!

Hello and Welcome!

Our story is similar to others who have posted. My hubby made a decision at the age of 28 to make a career change into the aviation field. Prior to this career changing decision, he had worked 10 years with United Parcel Service (UPS)- an absolutely great company with great benefits, great pay, etc... but bottom line my hubby was not happy delivering the packages (he wants to fly the packages!)

So...we made the choice together to make this dream of his a reality- and today he has recently made Captain upgrade and is working with a Regional Airline. I am so incredibly proud of all that he has accomplished and even more proud that he believed in himself enough to follow a dream. Leaving a great paying job of 10 years is a very scary action, but living a life and having a job that you don't love is scarier.

Good luck to you both- it is difficult (I will promise you that), but absolutely rewarding.
