Smile Newbie from New England

Hello Jetgirls!
I am so happy I found this site!! My boyfriend of 3 years starts his first IOE trip tomorrow from EWR. We met at Embry-Riddle while attending college there and as two New Englanders in Florida we shared many common interests and of course a passion for aviation, we've been inseparable ever since we met. The journey to this point has been a wonderful one and I look forward to all the adventures to come. As a pilot myself it makes it a little bit easier on the relationship, and understanding how crazy the schedules, pay etc can be in this industry.... but I'm sure you have all felt like I felt this morning when he had to leave me for his first trip. He is working for ExpressJet. The company I fly for is unique in that I am able to be home every night...So I think this may be a lonely few days coming up. I look forward to "meeting" all of you and am grateful for such a wonderful support system for the airline pilot girlfriends, fiances, and wives. Take care and I hope everyone had a fantastic holiday
-Mollie

Welcome! Where on the Cape are you? We spend the summers in Harwich, and DH commutes from Logan to EWR during that time.

Welcome!

I had to laugh when I read your post!

My DH and I met down in Florida as well.....we were also both from New England (we actually only grew up about 20 min apart....he was from Nashua, I was from Dracut). We both went to Florida Tech, he was a year ahead of me. He was there for aviation, I was there orginially for Space Sciences (I wanted to be an astronaut) but switched to Earth/Space Science Education.

DH is currently with ExpressJet as an EWR CA, he has been there since 1999. He is "swimming in the pool" at Southwest- just waiting for a class date.

We are currently living in NH. I am a teacher and he commutes out of MHT to EWR (which he hates). We love New England which is why we are still here, but I can see us moving to one of Southwest's bases at some point in the future.

Hi Mollie!

Where in Mass do you live? I currently reside in Portland ME, just up the coast...

Welcome to Jetgirls! I smiled when I read your post because there are similarities to my situation. My boyfriend and I met when he, a brand-new CFI, was my last flight instructor-- and I was his very first student! :-) I am now in nursing school, but have my PPL, and the BF is an FO for Mesaba out of DTW. I am sooooo glad that we share a passion for aviation; it makes the time we have to spend apart so much more bearable because I understand WHY he loves to fly/has to fly. In fact, I get jealous every time he leaves--not because he's leaving, but because I want to fly!

It is definitely hard sometimes. I went two weeks before seeing him over Xmas, and now, because I have to work over New Years, he decided to go see his family in Vermont... so I won't see him for another two weeks. REALLY not fun. But, still...that's how it goes. I'm sure you'll find Jetgirls a valuable resource...a place to vent, share, and to realize that you are definitely not alone!
