Hi and welcome to the site! I got back today from AZ so I'll post more later after I'm done catching up on things!
I've been with my guy since he started in the industry- it's fun to see them move on up!

Hi! Great to meet you! We have a lot in common!! I too took the Masters in Education route after finishing my BA in English Literature. I taught 8th grade English for 6 years before having my own little ones and I am now home with them. Teaching is fabuluos though!! My dream though has always been to be a children's literature author!!!! So crazy to read your message!!! I am actually working on part two of my first story while home with the kids and I am now beginning to research publishing contacts!! My husband of 9 years now (time flies...) is a Captain for NetJets. He's been with them for 8 years and absolutely loves it! Have you considered fractional airlines?? It's a really good option in the aviation industry! Happy New Year and nice to meet you!

Nice to meet you! I live in NKY with my dh, who went to EKU! He was there for about 2 years in 2001 and 2002, and we lived in Lexington while I finished school. Small world!

He is flight instructing with a flight school in Cincinnati right now, and hopes to go to work for Comair soon, also!

Elizabeth! Wow! I'm so glad to hear from you! My own plan has been to get my masters so I can teach until my own little ones come along and then start my career as SAHM and write/illustrate from home. I'm so glad to hear that is exactly what you're doing!!

My step-mother actually used to write greeting cards for Gibson and is now writing for Gartner out of the home and has had her foot in the writing/editing/publishing world for a number of years now. Also, this year at Christmas, upon discussing my plans to eventually write and illustrate children's books with an uncle, he informed me that he has been working with a woman who has written and illustrated 27 children's books and has asked him to help her do a re-issue of the series. However... the previous illustrator is not allowing the images to be republished and so my uncle had been looking for someone and I walked right into it. (we'll see where it all goes) On top of that, turns out the woman who wrote the books was a co-worker and friend of my step-mother's at Gibson. (small, small world) I'm not positive how much pull Bev (my step-mom) has but I'm sure she may be able to give you some pointers about getting your work published, if you're interested.

Also, BF's mom is a pre-school teacher and yesterday I had a conversation with her and she, as well as her co-workers, have been frustrated about the children's books that are available and have threatened to sit down and write their own! There is definitely a great need for some new children's literature!

As far as NetJets is concerned... It's funny you ask. BF has been talking a lot about NetJets lately... He's finishing up his commercial in Texas right now and should be home in about a month to start the job search. We're praying everything goes smoothly!

Emily! This indeed is a small world, I'm actually from Cincinnati... how are you all liking it up there? BF is from NKY (we met at EKU) and, among other things, has been looking into Comair so he can be close to home.

Where is DH instructing?

My dh and I also met at EKU! I was actually at UK but met through friends at EKU. I like it in Cincinnati, my family is here so I was happy to come home! Where are you from in Cincinati? My family is actually north of Cinci, but we live in NKY since its near the airport. Dh is instructing at Air Flamingo at the Lunken Airport. He likes it, but I wish he was flying more! We are hoping to hear from Comair soon, but his hours are still pretty low.

So neat that you ran into the need for an illustrator! Any news on that front!!! That is great!! I am actually just now venturing into the illustration portion of my books. I've been busy writing and now have two great stories and need to begin to put together a layout. I love the entire world of Children's Lit!! That would be great if your aunt has tips on publishing!! I am thinking about taking a course on Childrens Lit Publishing and freelance writing for Children's Magazines but I am sure it would be very helpful to have tips from someone with experience!!

As far as NetJets goes... It has become very competitive to get in over the past few years BUT they plan to hire several hundred new pilots this year as their fleets continue to grow and the client base continues to grow quickly so if his hours are above the minimum (2500) for application now is a great time to apply! There is a huge backlog of applicants right now but that doesn't mean anything if your BF has what they are looking for! We'd be more than happy to help with anything we can if he decides to apply!!

Have a great weekend!!
