Default Mice anyone?

I don't think I have ever met anyone in my life who is as terrified of rodents as my mom is. Well, today, she came up from our laundry room which is in the basement, SCREAMING and almost in tears. I knew immediately that it had to be a mouse...sure enough, it was.

I think they are just adorable and I hate that my dad puts poison out to trap them. Now, I know they are "rodents" and they are pests to have in your home, but I just hate seeing them be killed.

Anyway, my mom and I were the only ones home so I went down to get it, because obviously she wouldnt and he was still alive!! He was just SOOO cute I felt SO bad for him, I scooped him up and put him in a container with some air holes in it and some tissues for insulation. I even gave him a little piece of cheddar cheese! He's probably thinking this house is full of psychos.

Well, I'm just wondering because I've never dealt with mice in a house before, do you think he's already been poisoned and is suffering? Should I just let him go? I don't know what to do with him.

My mom is begging me to put him outside in the trashcan in the container he's in but I can't bear it. It's also below freezing outside and I worry that he might die if I just let him go.

Poor mouse. Any suggestions?

It's a MOUSE. It's a RODENT. They carry diseases and icky stuff and if you want them in your mom's house, then by all means, let it loose in the house or just outside--it will get back in where possible. You do not have to kill it but you do not need to keep it safe from the cold, either. Do you really think there is only ONE mouse??
What do you do when a mosquito is biting your arm? What about a wasp? What's the difference between a huge cockroach and tiny mouse?
Do you what you have to do.

In the suburbs we get field mice when it gets cold. They are looking for a nice warm place. Then they will find some hiding place. Then they will find some paper and shred it up. Then they will make a nest. Then....

DH and DS used to trap them. Everytime they caught one, they'd exclaim that they were closer to making Mommy that fur coat! Now we just put out the box of pellets that makes them go outside again. Yeah I know it's killing them. But, if they make that nest...

We would get mice in our garage occasionally. We had woods in our backyard and we'd just let them out back there.

awwwww

well of course I don't want them to INFEST the house, and I'm sure the poison has gotten to the rest of them, but just because he is a rodent and dirty doesn't mean he should die!! They come in the house because they're hungry and cold, not because they maliciously want to destroy our house...I swat misquitos because they hurt me when they bite, otherwise I wouldn't kill them. I'm one of those people who won't kill anything! When I was a kid, I used to look down at the sidewalk when I was walking to make sure I wasn't stepping on any ants. Psychotic? Probably, but I've grown out of that haha...

well, if it makes anyone feel any better, he died. So, he went in the trash. I didn't touch him! I just wanted to help him get better and then I was going to take him far away and let him loose in a field across the street. Tonight wasn't his lucky night though.

A few years back, I used to have groundhogs burrowing near the house. My dad didn't want them to die, so I had to trap them (one at a time) and take their not so cute furry butts to a lake about 10 miles away (much closer and they'd come back!!) Some of these beasts weighed 20-30 pounds so transporting the "humane" cage in and out of the car was not fun! I sprained my shoulder so badly once, I had to wear an arm sling to work in NYC at fashion week (that looked adorable). When I told people what happened they freaked--not about the animals but they thought I lived in the sticks of Kentucky!!(hardly the truth, but who was I to disillusion them?) maybe they were afraid of hillbillies? Needless to say, I am not a fan of creatures getting that close to my home!
Yeah, if a wasp stings me , it's a goner!
If ants are crawling up my leg--dead!
Survival of the fittest...maybe someday a giant will squash me?
