| Admin/Owner ![]() | What's the purpose behind having 2 convection ovens (one upper/one lower)?? always wondered if the only reason is for just really big gatherings or holiday feast cooking? or is there another reason like the smaller upper is better for pies/confections than the lower larger oven??

| Jetgirls Plus Member ![]() | Thats the only reason I know of -- my grandmother has one and uses it on occasions when she is having us over for dinner, she makes dinner in one while making dessert at the same time in the other. It does seem very convenient. My mom is constantly complaining that she wishes she had one. My aunt also has the double and uses it for her cookie business - it just helps her make more in a smaller amount of time. Other than that, I have no idea? |

| I think it might be helpful for holidays and what not, also if you are making say lasagna and you want to make garlic bread, if you have 2 they can be done at the same time! We have a big toaster oven that you can even make small cakes and brownies in, but we only have it bacause the place we rented when dh upgraded in iah didn't have an oven. And really the only time I find it useful is if I'm making something and want to add a side dish and have them be done at the same time. Dh's parents have the double oven and I think they only use it at X-mas!

| Do you mean double ovens in general or double convection ovens?? We have double ovens, but ours are not convection. I wish they were though. We had a single convection oven in VA and I loved it. Our builder always puts double ovens in their homes. I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!! Its something I've always wanted. We usually use the top oven for day to day use. The bottom one has our heavy pizza stone in it and we use that one to cook pizza's and bread (we use it at least once a week or more). Its sooooooo nice to have 2 ovens when you have a large dinner to make and a bunch of things to cook at differnet temps. There have been several times we have used both at the same time. The double oven is one of the things I love best about my home b/c I love to cook. ![]()

| Admin/Owner ![]() | so what's the difference between a regular oven and a convection oven? i suppose i just have a regular oven since mine is a one unit stove/oven? also, do you think having double ovens is a + in the resale point of kitchen mod? i never understood the toaster oven concept....hahaha

| Convection ovens have a large fan in the back and it circulates hot air in the oven to keep a more even temp throughout the oven (they are also called forced-convection ovens). They are supposed to cook food faster and cook more even than regular ovens. You can get convetion ovens as a single unit with the stove part on top (what we had in VA) or you can get them built into the wall as a single or double unit. You can get them in any form that you get a regular oven. Reg. ovens have a fan too, but you can't miss the fan in the back of a convection oven....and if I remember right, its more loud than a reg. oven. Also, our old convection oven let you cook either with the convection fan or without it and use the oven like a reg. oven. Not sure if they all do that. I would think double ovens can only help the resale. If you have someone like me who comes in, I'd be all over the double ovens...drooling. ![]()

| Some packages have directions for convection ovens. Its been 3.5 years since we had one, so I forgot what we did when the directions didn't list convection ovens. Maybe we took off 5 min or so?? I foget. They dont cook a whole ton faster...just a little faster.

| I'm not a baker so the exact temperature doesn't matter to me. Convection ovens are good for that because they circulate the air and you can bake multiple sheets at a time. It's also good for the big ticket items like the turkey. But this time we went Italian and got a Bertazzoni. I'm tired of stoves with electronics that can't stand the heat. I'm back to simple and effective! Ciao!
