Default Rant-title, tag & reg dept!!!

I am so frustrated!!!! I wasted my whole day at the stupid County Clerk's office with a bunch of legal mumbojumbo!!!

My parents found and purchased my hubby a used truck (we paid them back, hubby took car to base, could use a truck with hauling of house stuff). My dad put the title in hubby's middle name (hubby is one of those guys that go by middle name).

I tried to get insurance for the truck, but insurance won't insure until it has a Tennessee title (right now it has a Georgia title).

Can't register the truck without an admissions test. Admissions test is $9, they don't accept cards or check and it has to be exact amount. (Who in the world has $9?? I never carry any cash and even if i did it wouldn't be a 5 and four ones.) There was 45 (yes I counted) other people in line for the test (end of the month and all). I waited my turn.

Online has only one address for County Clerk. I go in, take a number, and wait. I am in the wrong place.

Go to correct place. Wait in line. I have to have proof that I live in the county (my driver licenses is another city). I produce a utlitiy bill. Title is not in my name. I can't register it or transfer it. Hubby has to come in and do it. But even that is not going to be easy because hubby goes by middle name, his license is in different city, and there are NO utlitity bills in his name (duh, I usually handle all of this kind of stuff). There is nothing more I can do. Hubby will have to spend one of his days off at the County Clerk's office too.

I understand why I can't do anything with the title, but it just drives me crazy that I wasted all that time.

oh man, i feel ya!! When I had to go get a new drivers license after mine got stolen, and transfer the title of my car to my name (from my mom) I had THE hardest time! I went to DMV in Park City - they don't do Drivers Licenses so I go to the DMV in Heber, (20mins away), fill out the paper work, but I don't have my soc card - which is a MUST HAVE- even though I had my passport (obviously proving citizenship), and because it's my first license in Utah, I had to have a background check! OK, go home call mom, she mails me my soc card and title to the car. Go back to the DMV a week later, take the test, get my temp. license - it'll be 4-8weeks (!!) before I get my regular one! *sigh* ok, I tell them I need to put the title in my name. Nope, they can't do it I have to go to the OTHER DMV (back in Park City) to do that! Gah! Drive back there, explain the situation. She hands me a form and tells me that I have to have a police officer check out the VIN for my car! Drive to the police station. Get the form filled out, drive back to the DMV get everything squared away, walk out with my license plate and a giant headache.

Seriously so inefficient! Back in Michigan you can do everything car related in ONE building. None of this driving across town BS! took me 3 freakin' hours to get it all done.

Okay, you guys think that's bad?? check this out.

Last July I bought a Chevy HHR while visiting my brother-in-law in Baton Rouge. I had been looking for a specific one and found it there, so I got it. Since I live in TN, they called my county to get the correct tax amount. Signed the papers, thought everything was good.

One month later, I went to co clerk to pick up my tags. They said I owed $44. No, that's wrong. I produced the papers showing I already paid taxes and what not at the dealership. She tried to tell me that was LA taxes, not TN. No, I tried to explain, they called you and you gave them TN taxes. I even had the girls name that LA talked to. She remembered, but said the amount they charged me was wrong.

I asked to speak with someone else. Someone else came and said, that will be $64. No, I said again. It should be zero. The supervisor comes out and he insist I must pay $18. Okay, three people, so far 4 different amounts for the taxes owed.

I finally get disgusted and leave, without my tags. When I get home, I contact the dealer. They call the tax place and get yet another amount. Amount number 5. They mail the clerk a check over night to cover the difference. Three days later I get a call, check has arrived, I can pick up my tags.

When I arrive, she hands me my tags, as well as almost $6 in change. I asked, "what's this for?"

"The dealer overpaid."

"They paid the amount you told them to pay. Are you telling me you gave them the wrong amount AGAIN? You're kidding me."

She didn't say anything and neither did I for about 30 seconds. I just stared at her. I was speachless. How can the people that work in the clerks office be that stupid? How can they screw up that many times??

I told her as I left the money on the counter. "Here, honey. You need this a hell of a lot more than I do. It'll help pay for that math tutor this office obviously needs."

One year later and i'm still shocked...

there's actually a good reason behind getting the title in both of your names!!

You know Kristie, I actually mentioned to the lady about "What if the title was in both our names" with the secert thought of going out to the car and "adding" my name to the buyer's line. She told me that if it was in both our names, we would both have to be present to transfer the title. I don't know if she was telling me a bunch of bull knowing which trick I was going to try next. . . but I really don't want to spend our "together" time at the county clerk's office.

Just an impossible situation all the way around.

I moved from NM last year to NC...and here apparently it too is an all day affair...unlike my DL which I was able to get in less than an hour, even though I did have to take a driver's test...

but just in july went to get my car registered...when to the DMV...NO ONE IN LINE...got my registration and new plates...BUT I had to get my car inspected, and I thought "what for...?" but at that time I had ten days to get it inspected and stickered...I guess they are stricklers here for inspections and if you opt of getting it done it's a whoppin $200 fine! so went to get it inspected, well on my way, and found out that my tint was TOO FREAKIN DARK!!! In NM, you could paint the windows black and no one would care! here, it has to be so much %...and of course, mine was too dark, so I failed the inspection!!!

so now, out to find a tinter that wouldn't cost me an arm and leg to strip and retint...found him (did cost maybe an arm)...now it's retinted that right %...however...people can now see in my car...no privacy whatsoever...stupid rules...
