oh heck no...I'M not shaving them, i'd take them to my old dog groomers if anything, i think.. that is if they even shave cats.

your cats probably are better off on the farm Michelle, at least you knew where they went to...most just drop them back off at the humane society and they just sit there waiting for a new home.

Nice Kristie, Nice.
You know I really wanted to shave my cat when we were in AZ. For goodness sakes my cat is a black long hair! After the move there were piles of fur underneath the furniture where I couldn't reach with the vacuum. It was so disgusting! I told Nick I want hard wood floors in our next place!

Whatever you do, keep in mind that without all the fur the cats' skin can burn in the sun so they should remain indoors. It might also be embarrassing for them:

I doubt they were so attached to me that it hurt their feelings, probably confused them for a little while but I'm sure they are over it by now.

I don't really have any trouble with Liam shedding. But he's just a humane society cat with short hair already (I'm allergic, but I HAD to have him!). Instead of shaving, try some Nair! Ha... fun mental pictures with this thread.

I thought about shaving my cat. My FH is all for it, he sort of has a thing about hair all over the place (my arguement it if its not the cat's it will be mine, I shed constantly.) I tried to come near my cat with an electric razor and he freaked out

I actually asked a groomer if they would do it for me. They informed me that groomers have to be licensed to groom cats because there is more chance the groomer will get hurt (I went to Petco and asked them, and the lady laughed in my face, no joke)

My vet said they would do it, but they knock them out first. I suppose it would be the less hectic way to do it. It would cost about 80 bucks, mostly for the setative (sp?) Although my cat is not a big fan of the vet. The vet wont get anywhere near him unless I am holding him

I am still thinking about doing it. I figure when I get him de-clawed, I'll just have him shaved too. I really think my cat would plot my death when I do that thoughI would too if I woke up and I was missing my fingernails and my hair

This entire thread just makes me laugh. The mental picture of a shaved cat cracks me up. I have four cats. Two from the humane society and two from a breeder. My two "regular" cats shed terribly. It's hard to pet them without getting a handful of fur. I'm allergic and have been getting allergy shots for 9 years.

My other two cats are from a bengal breeder and I notice a big difference with my allergies and the amount of fur that they shed. I can actually pet them without all the fur flying. One is better than the other. She doesn't shed at all. This isn't a solution for cats you already have but may help with future pets. I really, really like this breed. They have a sweet personality and the lack of shedding is soooo nice.

Everytime I see this thread, I laugh so I finally decided to read it! I have never heard of shaving a cat, but I do agree with what Michelle said about her male cat being upset when it was shaved. My cat growing up had a shaved tail/side (got in a fit) and was really upset for a while. It was like he knew he looked funny, and was upset to not have his fur. When it grew back in, he was back to normal. Very odd!

Kristie, if you do shave them, you have to post pictures. The only thing I can picture is on Friends when Rachel had the hairless cat!

i'm kindof afraid to try the nair type products cuz they are known to cause redness on certain types of skin (like mine)..and because they can sting.. i'd rather have it just clipped (not bald) but low like with a #2 clipper or something.

well, that's good to know... i wonder how much it costs for specialized *art* like this?! haha

when i created this thread, i never really thought much of the title... but now that ya'll are laughing about it, it's hilarious!! reminds me of that line in vegas vacation (you'll know what i mean if you've seen the movie more than 50 times)....but at least i didn't say "kitty" or something along those lines.. we'd have all sorts of characters perusing the site! hahaha
