a note about the thumb sucking thing - I was a lefty thumb sucker and am right handed. I'd wager a guess that your little one will be as well because (at least for me) I sucked my left so I could do stuff with my right at the same time!

thats funny, never thought of that, neither I or DS were a thumb sucker so I have nothing to go. DH is hoping for a lefty like him!

My little guy, the 5 yr old is both, right and left handed. Boy he can throw! And write! Both dh and I are righties, not a single lefty in the family, well, his cousin who played college baseball and was ambidextrus. Hopefully someday he can make his mommy and daddy lots of money in pro ball! lol

Actually, handedness (either left or right) is not inherited OR learned. Left handed people are created when the mother gives off a specific hormone during the pregnancy. The mother is only the carrier though, she/herself does not have to be left handed to have it.

My parents are right handed, both my brother and I are left handed because my mom carries the hormone. Doesn't mean if she'd had 15 kids that they'd ALL be left handed though. It depends on whether her body decides to release the hormone or not (not sure if hormone or chemical is the right word).

I am left handed, and sucked my left thumb. My daughter is also left handed and also sucks her left thumb. The fact that she's left handed is because I also release the chemical/hormone like my mother did. I'm sure her preference for which one she sucks and the fact that it's the same one I sucked is purely coincidental.

Hmmm....I never knew that about left handed people! That is really interesting. DH is left handed...but his 3 other siblings are not.

We had our first trimester ultrasound and the baby is moving like crazy, so much that it was hard to get the pics that we needed. But then it got tired on showing off for dad (his first time seeing baby) and sat on his/her bum and sucked it's thumb. The left thumb which the fetal internest was telling us that they now belive that baby's have develoved a dominate hand while still in the womb, so we will have to see if we have another lefty in the family! The day before the ultrasound appt. we were peeking at the baby and got a shot between the legs, and it looked a little like a boy, but the next day when they finally settled down he sat on his bum the whole time and wouldn't give us a shot. Its very early to "really" tell, but there are some signs that give you a good guess. We could tell at 13 weeks with DS, but it was confirmed a few weeks later. I would not paint the room pink from a 13 week guess!

A few more tests to go for the next few months but things are really looking good. I have to tell you that I can't wait for the weekly and monthy blood draws to go away!
