I know that there's a very small chance I would be able to make it, and I'll probably experience my first flight bump. But I just want to know if it's even possible... is this a horrible idea to try? I would probably try to get there Christmas eve so if I don't make it that day, I can keep trying on Christmas day and then try to get home on the 26th. I just hate the idea of him spending Christmas alone in a hotel room! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! :)

or anyone else who knows:
what is "UPS2B" for standby priority, please?
I know S2B as "honor roll passes" but t-net says that's not for INT and I'm seeing this priority used on the JNB flights out of ATL
Any clarification is appreciated!

This past weekend I non'reved out to LA and back. My first time non'reven in a very long time. On every single flight that I was on I saw a "situation" come up about passanger's bags. I can't believe how crazy people get over bags. What are they carrying in there? Diamonds, gold? Me? I just put my dirty socks and underware in there and leave the family heirlooms at home.

Situation one: A full Delta flight from ATL to LAX. I think it was a 767, but whatever plane it was it was big. This girl, about 20, ask this old, old man to lift her bag up into the overhead. She even said "I can't lift it myself." Why in the heck would you ever, ever carry a bag on the plane that you can't lift AND expect someone else to take care of it for you? Despite the old man's tries the bag was so big it wouldn't fit in the overhead. Eventually the bag had to the front and be checked.

Situation two: Seriously, this lady called (under her breath) the flight attendent bitch after the flight attendent "wouldn't help" her find a place to put the oversized bag in the cabin.

Situation three: A US Airways flight from LAX to PHI, it was a smaller plane. Everyone in Zone 5 was asked to check their carry ons if they had planned to put them in the overhead bins by the gate agent, as they already knew that there wasn't going to be enough space for everyone. Ugly, ugly names some passagners called the gate agent over this.

Situation four: Empty US Airways flight from PHI to BNA. The flight attendent told people they could move before he did the count. Lady tries to stuff her bag under the seat where I already had my backpack. Finally just leaves it laying in the middle of the floor and grabs the bulkhead seat in front of my row. I am horrified! I tell the lady "excuse me ma'ma but your bag is blocking my exit if there is an emergency." The flight attenedent hears and sees what is going on, I think. So the lady grabs the oversized bag and tries to stuff it under the bulk head seats. The flight attendent comes by and tells her that the bag can't go there that it must fit under the seat. The lady tells him that I won't "let her" put the bag in my row. I pipe up and say "I didn't say you couldn't stow your bag, I said you can't block my exit." The flight attendent rolls his eyes about the lady to me and stows the bag in the overhead bins, the only place it would fit anyways. At first I am nervous about making the comment, free flying and all. But the flight attendent goes on to have to tell the lady to turn off her phone on take off and to put her bag away when it was time to land, so I am pretty sure he knew/could guess what had happened before.

People are crazy about those bags. They just can't seem to get in their head, THE-BAG-IS-TOO-BIG-AND-WON'T-FIT. I know some of this must come from the fees airlines are charging for extra bags. That charge is a real detirment to the crew (the flight attendent), makes their job even harder.

brief silence, then
Tommy: It's ok, Mom, I ate it.

Johannesburg, The Westcliff, 3 nts for $120 net (I applied a blogger's gift certificate I earned)
Included bfasts, taxes, massages, airport pickup, dinner for 2 (max value$200) . This was a mystery auction and I had the location before I bid, They let me split the bookng 2 nts and one to fit our flights and safari. Now I'm ready to get the 4 nt safari package at Mkuze Falls to add to it.

Their sister site has some very well-priced hotel pkgs (many w/just room and taxes) for all over the US, MEX, Carib etc, called familygetaway.com. They don't have air, so they really suit airline folks.
Many of their dates are easily bookable but you have to be a bit flexible (gee--kind like nonreving!)
Anyway, FG allows 2 kids in most deals (Regina, this is the perfect getaway FROM family site, too)
