Fire safety around the house (started from Self-Reliant thread)

Man, I don't know how you guys with children and no one else to count on keep your sanity!

For me, my parents/in-laws are my neighbors! My DH and I had just gotten married and moved into our new place. We went outside to look at something going on in the sky, eclipse or something, and I locked us out of the house, barefoot and in pj's. We just walked around the corner to my mother-in-laws to get keys.

Then another time, it snowed, went outside to play in it with the girls, locked us out, so we walked to my parents to get keys...do we see a pattern here?

Oh yea, over Thanksgiving I caught my oven on fire and called my dad rather than 911 because he is a retired fireman who ownes a fire extinguisher company and could get there faster than the fire department. He came over and saved the day!
