| I tried to donate kid's type stuff to the women's shelter here for the same reasons you stated and they wouldn't take it! No one here will take stuffed animals either! I have a really nice crib, stroller, pack-n-play, highchair and various other stuff that I can't seem to find anyone to take! |

| The house we live in right now is about 2300 sf with very little storage in the main living areas. We do, however, have a basement and a large, easily accessible attic. Our basement goes through spurts of being organized or a disaster. When DH gets into a project, it looks terrible! He just had to put a wall back up that he took down between the garage and the basement so he could use a section of the basement as garage space--ours is only a 1-car garage. As for the primary living space, we converted one of the bedrooms upstairs to a walk-in closet/office. That was very helpful is storing off season clothing since the closets in our bedrooms are quite small. One of the things I also do is give items away to charity. Around here they call you and pick it up at your house and once you get on one organization's list, they all call. I try to give something every time they call! I have also used those under the bed storage containers. They are not the best solution, but for things that are rarely used, they stay out of sight. |

| Well, we've only lived in our house for 1.5 years so it's still fairly organized. And I try to keep on top of it, but there's still plenty of stuff I need to get rid of. It's organized and put away, but really I could do without it. Our basement isn't too bad. It could use some reorganization, but for the most part it's kept up. I wish I had the time to really do everything around here that i'd like to. I need to take Emily over to grandma's for a day. |

I'm trying to figure out where i can get rid of all the hotel soaps etc that DH brings home!! we have an entire tall kitchen trash bag full (heavy as heck too!) our attic is somewhat accessible from a ladder.. but i'm not a height person so yea...getting me up there without stairs? good luck! haha

| Kristie, We used to give the soaps and stuff to a women's shelter. I got the number out of the phone book. They don't publish the address, but gave me a mailing address. When they said they don't take other stuff, I got disgusted and just started giving it to the Salvation Army. |

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Interesting. Our women's shelter takes donations like that. Also, for the holidays our company adopted a program run for teenage mothers who are too old to be in foster care (their moms are in jail, drug addicts, dead, etc). So the girls live in the home with their babies and get to finish school. Anyway, they were looking for all the types of items you mention: soaps, baby supplies and equipment, etc. None of them even owned a winter coat! Now they do! |

| My DH and FIL do this too! We have enough soaps and potions and lotions to cleanse an entire county!!! Oh and coffee, he brings home the coffee packets from the rooms too!

| Jetgirls Member | I have a friend who blogs and mentioned that she is doing this "Seven Things Project" that is pretty interesting. It's kind of a nice challenge and also small enough to be attainable. Basically, every week you get rid of (donate/sell/trash etc) 7 items. It might take a while to get through everything, but it's working for her. Here's a link to the blog- http://seven-things.blogspot.com/. It's a whole community of people who are participating. Might be just the right thing to start the new year off with! Kim
