The Dating Game

It's not easy dating a pilot...We've all been there at one time or another.

If your currently dating a pilot of any age, no matter where he/she is in their career then you'll find this forum helpful.

A lot of experience from those who have *been there, done that* can be obtained in this forum.

Ok, I have a bad case of the blahs. I have a ton of work with school right now. My biggest blah has been reading threads here and over at JC. I have seen more stuff about pay cuts and bankruptcy and crashes, etc that it really makes the sacrifices I am making right now to be supportive of my flyboy even more difficult. I know that flying is the thing he loves, but it just seems like everything is going bad in the industry. Sorry about my stupid rant....it feels better just to get some of it out.

I feel your pain! The airline industry is not in the best shape right now to put in mildly. But I guess what I try to keep in mind and to keep from getting too down about it is that there are disadvantages to every job and there can be some pretty descent flight benefits with being a pilot wife. it definitely sucks at times though but thats what we're here for!

Well said fly-girl!! I like to be optimistic and remember that the airlines work in a cyclical manner... once your down, there's nowhere to go but up (in most cases). it looks bad now, but in another 10-20 or who knows how many year (maybe even less), once all this is ironed out, the airline business could very well become lucrative again.

yeah.. i might be a little naive or ambitious in saying that, but again.. i just prefer to be optimistic.

The aviation industry is just like the economy (and often even follows it) in that it has periods of recession and periods of elevation (wrong economical word, but you know what I mean).

The industry WILL turn around, it's just going to take some time. DH thinks it might get regulated again, and then there's things like the economy and unemployment and the war...but people will always need to fly and so there will always be an airline business.

DH is a student now, and I'm glad that he's only a student actually. We were told we were foolish for going to flight school post-9/11 and not doing the military route...but by the time he's ready to be hired by an airline, the industry will be starting to turn around.

And that's what this message board is for...to support each other and encourage one another.

Now if he loves flying and this is his dream, support him. Because it's not about the money. There are so many fields that make next to no money, but people still do them, (Teaching comes to mind...and then things like artists and such), because it's their dream and their love.

Thanks everyone for the support. I know the industry goes through swings. I have just been really stressed about school so the crashes/bankruptcy/etc havent been sitting well. I talked to John for a bit today. I don't ever expect to be rich and I know this is what will make him happy, it is what he wanted when we started dating years ago, and it is still what he wants now...and btw I am going ot be a teacher. We are doomed to be poor forever.

Thats amazing. Around here with my BA I will make 22ish and that is if I can find a job...they are pretty scarce in the area. Oh well. Its a profession that can relocate as necessary with a pilot
