Like Kim, D and I met online. We talked online for 3-4 months before I let him see me, and had many "phone dates". (Which I think was good, 'cause that's most of what we get now, being on Mesa-reserve!).

He was in a professional pilot program about 2 hours away (still working on instrument rating) and I was in nursing school.

It was almost Christmas break, and he was on the phone with me about 8pm saying "Can I please see you before you go for Christmas? PLEASE???" (I was flying to Alabama from TX to visit my brother's family).

I finally gave in and said, "when?" D said, "I'm already halfway there, I started driving when I called you an hour ago."

I met him to eat at a local Mexican restaurant, then we took a walk around the park. By that time it was 10 pm and nothing in the town was open to do. He had to drive 18 hours up to Colorado the next day, and I had to drive 4 hours home then take a flight to AL.

We rented a movie and watched it in my dorm room. After a goodnight kiss, he drove the 2.5 hours back home, and I haven't been able to get him out of my head since!

I know that doesn't sound like much, but it was the conversation and the feelings that are so memorable, and it meant alot to me that he was so willing to see me even though it meant quite an addition to alot of driving he already had to do.

Ten years ago this June my good friend and I went down to the DAB area where her cousin lived. We were looking for a beach w/ a cheap place to stay and her cousin was offering his extra rooms in his condo. We went down and stayed a week. Her cousin and I hit it off very well. I loathed my job in NC so I quit and two months later moved down to the DAB (New Smyrna beach actually) area. I initially intended to find my own place but we were spending so much time together it just made sense to move in...so I did. Tomorrow we will celebrate 8 married years together and in June it will be 10 years as a couple! It's been quite a ride and I wouldn't change a thing!!!!

we met on the internet around new years of 1994...started out simple and harmless (haha)..ended up talking about 6 hrs a day after a while. at 2 months, he "found" my phone number via his own investigations, totally freaked me out when he called...so we started talking by phone AND internet (imagine 1/2 hr to hour phone call + 6 hrs on the net! I didn't get much homework done haha)...3 months down the line, we swapped pictures. 6 months down the line, we finally decided to meet in person. He flew over to Florida (was living in CA at the time)...made up a set of rules to abide by (just in case it didn't go smashingly well, there were no hidden agendas)...and our first actual date was at Disneyworld, that night, we watched a movie in my appt on my tiny little tv while eating a rice krispie treat we got at disney...we totally had a ball and were attached to the hip from then on. he got so upset about having to go back home, i took it better than he did, and it was another 3 or 6 months or so till we got to see each other again.

honestly, the whole LDR process was torture and back then, there were no websites like this. back then, the internet didn't even have pictures..just words...yes, we ARE true geeks!

Thumbs up Re: Something lighter: What was dh/bf first date?

What a great idea, Czechmate!
Sorry this is so long, but I think the background adds an "awww" factor.

I have to give a little background info on how we met… In my search for a room to rent, there were two people who I seriously considered moving in with - Alyssa and Heather. Alyssa seemed very nice, but a little too uptight, I asked her what the neighbors were like and she said "well, there's an old lady on one side and the other side there's a group of 3 or 4 guys." I met Heather and she and I hit it off immediately. I was replacing her old roomie, Tim. Well, I moved in with Heather and Tim ended up staying there for another few months. The first week I moved in, Tim said that I should go with him to a dive called Perry's where he and his friends hung out on Wednesday nights for karaoke So I went and I sang "Nobody does it better"… when I got down off the stage, Brian came up to me and said "You have a beautiful voice." That's when we started talking… we would flirt at parties and Tim (the roommate) tried playing matchmaker ("Oh, well what did he say????" it was like middle school, I swear). Anyway, this local brew pub called DuClaw has beer releases once a month and one was coming up… Brian asked me if I wanted to go, I said sure & gave him my number.

The night before we were going to meet at DuClaw, he finally called me (I swear it felt like forever!!), he said "Well, I can pick you up at 5." Me: "Oh, I thought we were just going to meet there?" Some back-pedaling occurred - I thought that "everyone" was going to meet up there and it wasn't a date-date, and he had it set in his mind that it was a date-date. Anyway, we managed to come back to him picking me up. As luck would have it, I came down with the flu that night (never got back to sleep after he called me), but I was determined to still make our date (didn't want him getting the wrong idea!) - went to the doc, got some drugs. Brian picked me up (and opened the car door…) and we were off to DuClaw with my 102 degree fever . Had a few beers there and then walked down to Jillian's (now Dave & Buster's) where we got some food, played air hockey, and then he had me fly the flight sim game there, lol. After that, we went to Perry's for some karaoke… at the end of the night, he took me home and we hugged good-bye.

I learned when I picked him up for our second date that Alyssa was his next-door neighbor! So we probably would have met one way or another.
Of course the first two months we were dating we just traded illnesses back and forth!! That's my long-winded story… thanks for reading all of this drivel!!

awww...all these stories are so fun!

well I was going to school partime at San Juan College in Farmington, NM and at that same time G was going to the PACE program with Mesa, well I first saw him at the cafeteria and thought nothing of it, but my sister exclaimed "oh my gosh, that guy totally checked you out!" i brushed the thought away and continued with my merry day, whenever i saw him around the computer commons i'd smile, and just walked away, one time i physically bumped into him on the stairwell, and blushed, and weakly said "sorry, excuse me" and ran to the bathroom because my cheeks were so red! well, one night, when i was working at the GAP, i recieved this voicemail from my sister, telling me "you would not believe what just happened", well i called her, and she told me everything..

she worked at the gym at the time, and so when G was leaving the gym he must have recongnized her and approached her asking "who is your friend...with the big eyes...tall...very pretty" and she (being very snotty) was like "OH, she's not my friend, she is my sister, why do you want to know?" from then, she was like "don't worry i'll introduce you to her..."

AND THAT WAS ON A THURSDAY...I HAD TO WAIT TILL MONDAY TO MEET THIS MAN!!

so walking to my class, so nervously, and this was my last class and hadn't seen him that entire day, but as we were walking i saw him, dropped my head to the floor, and my sister yelled "Ohhh, wait G, this is my sister cassie!" I was SOOO nervous, because he was with all the other pilots, and i just felt stupid, but we stood in the hallway and did small talk, very awkwardly, gave him my number, and we went on our first date the following saturday, to the only nice restaurant in farmington, luckily i knew the waiter, so i was somewhat relaxed...although, I was nervouse the WHOLE night!! we went to the mesa bluffes, listened to music, and talked under the clear starry night of NM, with the city lights in front of us...

so far we have endured...a two year long distance relationship between NC and NM...and now i am finally here to see what happens...

(sorry, so so long!)

Our first date actually lasted two days. We met up at a little pizza place in downtown STL and had lunch. After that we went to The City Museum, which is this awesome children's museum which has a huge maze with all different themes (water, cliffs, tunnels, tree houses). You climb around like at Chuck E Cheeze, but much cooler. After that we walked to Union Station and saw a movie, and sat for hours talking at Starbucks.

It got to be really late, and the mall was closing, but I just wasn't ready to say good night, so he offered to show me his crash pad (I know, sounds like a cheesy line, huh?) He was a freight dawg back then, and actually lived in the hangar he flew out of. They had one small apartment with four or five rooms on it, kind of like a dorm.

Poor guy... I started my period that night, and he had to go get me tampons. I was so embarassed! But he was totally cool about it.

The next day we had breakfast at Panera Bread Company, and then hung out at the hangar watching tv for a while longer before I had to leave. He says he knew that night that he was going to marry me.

These stories are fun. Everyone is telling how they met and all I said was where we went on our first date. So here is how we met:

I grew up in Herndon Virginia. After college, I heard about Atlantic Coast Airlines that happend to be out of Herndon. I decided to become a Flight Attendant with them. Since training was in my hometown, I decided to show some of my out-of-town F/A classmates a good local Irish Pub in Herndon. It was our first weekend of training and we all went out to the pub. That night, I met met my DH who at the time was a pilot for ACA (its funny b/c 2 of his friends draged him out that night to try and meet someone. He is shy and really didn't want to go out that night....bet he is glad he did now!). Well, we didn't exchange #'s, but there was an attraction right from the start. A month later, I was sitting in the crew lounge at IAD waiting to do an IOE flight when he walked into the crew lounge. We saw each other, talked, and exchanged #'s. The next day I had to start a 3 day trip and we talked on the phone while I was on my trip. The night I got done with my trip, we went on our first date. 9 months later we got engaged and 1 year after that we got married.

Ha, then I'll just stick with our first date...

Me and my boyfriend had met in person first, but he lived in another state at the time and had a horrendous schedule... so he went after me online. lol Every time I went on my AIM screen name and he was online, about 5-10 seconds later, I'd have an IM from him. We eventually started talking for hours and hours online and then on the phone.

By the time his schedule permitted us to see each other, we had known each other pretty well. We went to the Outback Steakhouse (haha) and then went back to my mom's house and watched "The War of the Worlds" on pay-per-view. We didn't really watch the movie, we made fun of it and laughed the entire duration of the film.

That was one of the best nights of my life.

I love all the stories!!

I loved our first date, although it was nothing EXTRAORDIANRY.... to me though, afterwards, I knew I had something very special!! He picked me up,,, we ate dinner at the Lake Eola yacht Club right on Lake Eola in downtown Orlando (brenda and Kristie,,, you guys probably know this place huh?) Neither one of us TOUCHED our food,,, so we wound up having a couple of drinks. We went to Sky Bar (a really cool roof top bar), then back to my house to watch TV. I was so tempted to let him stay over (but I didn't, I was a good girl). I almost fell asleep with my head on his lap, because he was playing with my hair.... it was sweet. I was sad to see him go, but I knew it wouldnt be good for him to stay over on our first date!!!hahaha!!!
