The Dating Game

It's not easy dating a pilot...We've all been there at one time or another.

If your currently dating a pilot of any age, no matter where he/she is in their career then you'll find this forum helpful.

A lot of experience from those who have *been there, done that* can be obtained in this forum.

Yesterday while in my psychology class (hah, how ironic) I made a list of all the things I can do to keep myself busy this spring/summer while my bf is gone and eventually into the fall if he choses an airline far from where I'll be living.

Came up with a pretty good sized list. Hopefully I can stick to it. I think the main one I need to focus on is "Don't THINK so much."

Any other ideas anyone on how to keep your mind off things?

That's a really really good idea to make a list! Just make sure you pin it up somewhere you can see it so you don't loose it, because you will probably need it.

And you're right... focusing on 'Don't think so much' is the most important thing!!

that is one of the biggest hurdles believe it or not. but if it doesn't work on a day by day basis yet.. no worries, work on it hour by hour and before you know it, day by day will become easier and easier.

really, the best way to keep your mind off things is to keep your mind busy. sounds like you have the right idea!

have you thought about saving up some $$ so you can go visit (or he can come home) and/or temporarily moving or anything like that? then again, if you have a really stable job or like where you are, your not gonna want to do that...just wondering?!

I don't think I'll really be in a position financially to go and visit him. I'm living with my parents now while I finish high school. I'm starting college in the fall in Chicago.

I pretty much have no money saved up. I'm hoping to find a job this summer though and make a lot of $$. It would be great if I was able to go and see him whenever he wasn't flying.

Last night he mentioned something about going American Eagle. (In Chicago where I'll be.) He keeps changing his airline of emphasis. Which is kind of confusing for me. But I understand that he's making a major decision that will affect his entire career.

He's allowed to vacillate for a bit : )

I know, I do too.

I don't know if Nick and I would have made it if we were really young and he was going off to that first airline job!

I'd like to think I'm mature?

He is a bit older than me, true.

I don't think age in those respects matters all that much.

At least to either of us, and that's truly what matters.

Sorry I didn't mean my comment to be taken the wrong way. This is my own situation and others will be different (of course!). When I was younger (no matter how mature I thought I was) I still wasn't 'experienced' with the ways of the world, I lacked confidence, and I certainly wasn't independent. I also had to "sow my wild oats", if you will, in college. When I got older I learned to be on my own and experience life. I also learned about ME and learned to like to do things by myself. This definitely prepared me to be with a pilot!

I have changed so much since I was in my teens and even 20's. I don't think Nick would have been attracted to the girl I used to be!

I know my bf wouldn't have been attracted to who I was back in the day! Not that that was that long ago... And I wouldn't have been attracted to him either. It's so interesting to see how folks change as they grow and get older; in a lot of ways I'm completely 180 degrees turned around different than who I was. And I'm sure I'll change again. I laugh when my younger bro says he won't change something about himself, ever... riiiiiight, bro, riiiiiight

Speaking of THE Talk... we had another one last night. I decided that being negative about the situation is only pulling us both down and instead I'm going to be his NUMBER ONE fan. It feels good to vent all the crap I keep discovering but it's not helpful anymore... time to pull it together and look for the happy!

And, more exciting for me, he's getting to the place where he feels like I really can put my heart into enjoying these circumstances, that I'll be ok, that I can make it, and that I'm not doing it just because he wants me to, but because I want to...

(Uh, yeah, it's about time you realized I've got gumption too!)

I LOVE these smilies!!

skyrocket,

that sounds like some good news... coming to accepting the situation. It's hard to get to that point. It's just a frame of mind you have to force yourself into or you'll make both of you miserable. (I've been there too..)
