| Member | Alright I'm looking for the perfect valentine's idea. We are doing our 'own' vday since my pilot works on vday. I want to do something really perfect. I want something romantic and happy, because we've gone through a few rough patches the last month or so. Also, I'm on a college budget, and live with 2 other roommates. So i was thinking of getting a hotel room, so we could just be together, but then the college budget came in to play..any ideas to make this night something special? |

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Have you checked hotel prices to see if there is anything affordable at all? If they aren't affordable, do the roommates have plans so they could be elsewhere? Making your own food is always cheaper, maybe plan the meal around foods that are said to be an aphrodisiac? Make a little album of all the pictures you have of the 2 of you, maybe turn it into black and white pictures? I made my dh a "naughty" album a coule of years ago for Vday. He REALLY liked that. I need to throw it out though before the kids find it one day or something lol. Or before I get tempted to turn it into Playboy when I get desparate enough for money. You could do something like blow up some balloons and put words or phrases on little papers and slip them in the balloons. I don't know what kind of things exactly you were looking for, but I have a book called "1001 Ways to be Romantic" or something like that and it has a lot of little cheap/free ideas. Maybe go to a Barnes and Noble or Borders or something and skim through a few books like that and get some ideas. |

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | I would nix the hotel idea... they stay in hotels all the time anyway, so although it would be nice for you to be completely alone, it probably wouldn't seem that special to him. If you're the creative type, I would write him a poem. Last year when my bf went away to training, I made him a DVD set to our favorite songs with pictures & videos from our relationship. He LOVED it, and I loved making it. A night spent in a hotel room is just that - a night. It would be nice to have something tangible that you could enjoy for years. So I like Michelle's idea, too. ![]() |

| Admin/Owner ![]() | the guys stay in hotels all the time, so that won't really be as special to him as to you. I'd say grab a bottle of bubbly, make a picnic, put some smooth lounge/jazz on and sit with a blanket near the fireplace... it's so cold where you are anyways that it'll just *feel* right! that's my suggestion.

Agreed, it would literally kill my husband to spend a night in a hotel if he is not on duty. He would rather camp.

| One thing that I did for DH was I found a little plain box (can be found at the $1 store) and I decorated it. Then I wrote out 365 things I loved about him, or just words of affection that were personal (not from a book or website). Then I printed them out, cut them into strips, and put them in the box. That way, whether I was with him or not, he could take one out everyday and know that I loved him and why. Just a thought. |

| Member | Thank you guys so much for your ideas, I nixed the hotel idea right away, as i can't afford it, and i know he doesn't want to stay in another hotel, what i've decided is just to have a candle lit dinner my roommates will be gone for a few hours so we'll have some time to eat and relax before they get back. its not the perfect plan i was wanting...but i think i'm putting to much into it anyway, but it will do for this year...to spend the day together i guess is enough these days I hope you all have a wonderful begining of the week and happy v day... |
