This is what I woke up to this morning just south of Memphis.

To think things can't get any worse is a failure of imagination.

Yup, the snow that Memphis just got is on its way to the mid-Atlantic ... again!! We're lined up to get another 8"+ on top of the 2' in general across the area. I figure mother nature can't see my white flag b/c it just blends in w/ the snow. The federal govt was closed today and I suspect it'll be closed for the remainder of the week. There will be a lot of "working from home" this week.
They're predicting 12-18 inches here in Philly on top of the 28.5 inches from the weekend. Nice.

BAD NEWS!! we;re trying to make it back to US and have opted fro Paris cnx to ATL instead of DL nonstop JFK then splat--sitting for who knows how long to get to CVG
Good news is we've just spent wk+ in Egypt and it was amazing. few extra$$ w/zeds and such but some hotel points and internet are hopefully getting us home soon!
but... guess it looks pretty?
Hah! Its definitely pretty gorgeous. But at the same time its comical. I find myself just breaking out in guffaws and laughter when I'm driving. The piles from plows and shovels and snow throwers are just plain obnoxious. The only places I've ever seen piles like these are the Rockies and Sierra Nevadas.
My husband and I just ran to the hardware store. We stocked up on paint and other odds and ends so that we can stay busy w/ home projects while we're holed in for round #2.
good chance for early spring cleaning!!
but the fire is so warm and the tv is so colorful...
I feel for you mid-Atlantic folks!! 2 feet is enoughStay warm and safe!!

i know with this new round of snow...doug's flights all got ridiculously fubar'd. He was supposed to leave tomorrow but all flights to jfk..canceled...so luckily, they rearranged his trip to deadhead out to brussels from atlanta and then fly back in. problem is, they're doing this with the entire crew and all the crew jepps are in jfk. essentially, they're required to have at least 2 flight kits on board the plane. Doug called the other FO, he's from CT but no way is he going to jfk just to pick up his flight bag. he said he'd be lucky to get out of CT and down to ATL.
so things are really screwed up...i'd expect them to be messy for about a week.
HA-HA! CT and NYC are getting nothing compared to the lower portions of the NE!
Good luck to all our working pilots!

NYC *will* be getting their fill, just a few steps behind Philly and co.
This is from HPC (Hydrometeorological Prediction Center), a division under NOAA. The NWS takes guidance from HPC, among other centers. Essentially Philly to NYC will get upwards fo 12". There will be a sharp gradient in snowfall, however. Upstate NY and MA northward will see very little (if any) snow, while NYC will have quite a bit of snow. This map lifted from flight stats just now says it all.HVST SNOW AXIS SHOULD ALIGN JUST NW OF THIS REGION WITH
THE POTENTIAL FOR SOME 12 INCH AMTS FROM THE PHILADELPHIA TO NYC
METRO AREAS. THIS AREA WILL ALSO BENEFIT FROM AN INTENSE COMMA
HEAD BAND SWINGING ACROSS THE AREA THIS AFTN. STILL EXPECT A
RATHER SHARP NRN CUTOFF TO THE HVY PCPN SHIELD OVER CNTRL NY AND
NRN MA GIVEN THE STEADY EWD PROGRESSION OF THE CLOSED LOW
OFFSHORE.
