Default Tour de France

Is anyone else watching this year's Tour de France? It's truly inspiring. Such athletic power. It makes me want to... eat my ice cream OUTSIDE, instead of indoors. Seeing all the beautiful countryside while watching is giving me cabin fever. I wanna go to Belgium!!! I wanna go to France!!! Too bad all my clothes are stained with spit up. Go Lance!

Nope, I haven't been watching. Maybe I am just grouchy but I didn't want Lance to win and I rolled my eyes when I heard about Cheryl Crow cheering him on. Blah. He's a jerk.

Well according to the media ( so maybe it's not allll true), his dear wife who stuck by his side through every thing and had his children, was left in the cold when Ms. Crow came along. He just up and left her. For Cheryl Crow. Her family AND his have spoken out against him saying that they had a great marriage and how much his wife had been through between his cancer, book, and races, and then bam, he's gone. Guess I just don't wish good things for him when I hear that.

Hmmm (thinking aloud), 4 days without babies... they manage without Daddy 4 days a week... hmmm... I suppose that's one of the benefits of not being able to nurse... hmmm

Ok, so I know the Tour was over last week, but I just felt compelled to post on this topic! My husband and I are big Lance fans.
I'm not trying to change anyone's opinion or anything, but I just wanted to reply to Michelle's post. Have you read either of his books? The first one is truly inspiring and is what got me interested in cycling. The second book, although not as well written, touches on the subject of his marriage.
I DO NOT condone the fact that he had an affair and although he does not mention Sheryl Crow in his book, he does admit to not being able to completely handle the whole celebrity thing. He basically says his marriage was on the rocks for quite sometime. They seperated once and then tried to get back together. He admits to being on the road too much and not giving his marriage enough attention. He also still maintains that his ex wife is a wonderful person and deserved more than he could give her.

One thing that really impressed me about him is that before the Tour this year he took some time off from training and came back to the States to spend some time with his kids. He then made a public statement saying that if this time off cost him the Tour he would have no regrets. He said winning the record was not worth neglecting his kids.

Again...I know this is an old post, but I just thought I'd add in my two cents!

Well I know my opinion was based on limited "Hollywood" gossip that may not even be accurate. I shouldn't be so quick to make a judgement based on that, but you know how it is, you hear what you hear and it kind of sticks to you some times and makes you not like a person just cause you heard something ugly. I'm glad there is another side to it.

I know exactly what you mean. I heard about the affair before reading the second book and it completely shattered my faith in the guy. But...after thinking about it, I thought "who am I to judge this person that I've never met?" It was like I was taking it as a personal insult...I think it would be very hard to be a celebrity.
I actually struggled with it for quite sometime before reading his second book. I still get a sick feeling in my stomach when I hear gossip about him and Sheryl Crow. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some psycho Celebrity Stalker or anything. I was just very touched and inspired by his first book and really came to admire him...then I felt totally let down.

Anyway...I just wanted to post about his side of it.
