| Call it depress-a-thon. So I probably told quite a few people that DH was taking a job with skywest. They called him a month early to start training on Jan 10th instead of Feb 14th. So, I've been through the first week of no Joshie, and I'm hurtin. I really miss him. Still have3 weeks to go before I even see him. I have to stay in freezing Rochester, NY for the next 5 monthes due to the job I started not even 7 monthes ago. Its a reputation thing since I don't want future companies looking down on me putting less than a year into this company. Plus we have to sell the house, lesson learned there. DH will be on reserve for most of that time, and with minimal days off in a month. So I'm taking care of everything house related, dealing with the snow, trying to show up for work, and trying to be supportive to DH's studying. I'm having a hard time seeing that light at the end of the tunnel and have been giving DH more than his fair share of grief. I really want to be better supporter but I feel ditched. I moved here for him and his career. I guess this is a vent-a-thon, but boy is it depressing. |

| [ QUOTE ] [b][i]roz said: I hear that some airlines have the practice of not paying pilots during initial training! Yikes!!!! [/ QUOTE ] Comair used to make the pilots pay THEM for new hire training! When Jason was first hired at Comair, he had to pay $10K in order to go through training. How is that for backwards?!?! |

| Jetgirls Plus Member ![]() | Lauren- I hope things get better for you! When Nick was going through training I didn't see him for a few months, then he decided to be based near PHL so he could live with his parents (and save $). For the next 6 months I saw him 3 days/month. Now he is in New Mexico and I see him 2-3 days/week. We decided as a couple that I wouldn't follow him to his base(s)- it wouldn't make sense for us. I really like living in AZ and my job is good/stable. When/if we have kids, we may move back closer to our families in PA (but this will be WAY in the future!). Although I missed him a lot when I wasn't seeing him much, I was very supportive of him and kept myself busy with work, hobbies, internet, etc. Nick and I kept in touch a lot with text messages, phone calls, and email. Of course I think I had a somewhat easy time adjusting to this lifestyle (maybe b/c we aren't married and/or b/c we don't have kids?), so I'm probably not the best person to give advice. I just wanted to let you know we care! These websites are great to keep you busy too! It feels good to get out your feelings on here! Amanda One more thing, if you feel a little depressed, check out these guys, they always make me laugh!!! > |

I still don't think they pay them during training, but they don't charge for it anymore. Jason is so cheap, I'm surprised he did it, but he was so sick of being a flight instructor he was willing to do just about anything to get a "real job". |

| Feeling much better after the vent earlier. Thanks everyone for their support. Learned a lesson about moving somewhere for DH's career, I can't wait to get back out West. I don't even know what city to pick yet. I get to pick the city this time, or at least my career helps the decision. Salt Lake City, Tucson, Denver or Colorado Springs! SO many decisions. Roz, Nope they don't pay him a cent but thats why he married a girl that is willing to support his butt. |

| AHH!! Lauren- Welcome to my world! Bill just got out of new hire training a few weeks ago, just went through his very firts week of reserve. I know EXACTLY how you feel. I consider this board my new "family" it's amazing how much venting helps! I actually flew up to atlanta this weekend to see if we could spend sometime together, and somehow he did not get called friday night or all day saturday,,, so we actually were able to squeeze in another whole day and a half together this week. It was GREAT. But ofcourse now here I am, back in Orlando without him feeling MUCHO DEPRESSED!! I sm still sooooo new at this and I have so much respect for all the ladies who have been there done that, to them it's easy, sometime even fun( right Krisite, right Roz?) But, I honestly look so forward to be able to enjoy this lifestyle one day. Right now, I am still getting used to it. IT STINKS, but i can already tell it's getting better. | Admin/Owner ![]() | I hear ya ladies! regionals isn't a fun time, it's the time when you learn a hellalot of patience while DH/BF is building as much time as quickly as possible. Regional flying is just a stepping stone - but it's a great learning utility for the step after regionals (whenever/whereever it goes after that). I might be going thru what ya'll are going thru pretty soon cuz they're opening up bids in the ER (international) and Doug wants to go there, only if he can hold a line. However, for him to hold a line, it means swapping bases and going to the 767ER out of NYC/JFK (it's junior to LAX). that means both a base switch and a plane switch - so a good 6 weeks of training if not more cuz it's international. I haven't been "weeks" without the dougster since 1998 - so we'll see if i end up venting in the "depress-a-thon" area as well! hahaha thing is - for me, it won't be nearly as bad as when he'd first started out in the regionals and so forth...I remember 1996-1998 very vividly still and i remember how much it SUCKED! I remember being such a B*TCH about it.. I tried to be as supportive as i could, but it was SO hard for me to deal with not being a priority (esp since we were *dating*) - at all (or at least it seemed like i wasn't the priority) - at times, i just went ballistic in B&TCH mode! What a learning lesson that was...that's where i learned all about patience and it's really helped me a lot in life since then! I remember, when week 1 was done, i celebrated.. when week 2 was done.. i celebrated again! sometimes it would get harder and i would just celebrate getting thru the day of not giving him any hassle...and on and on until it as over and he'd passed his final checkride. But as soon as training's completed, it's done until he switches bases or planes or companies and it's a BIG sigh of relief - the light in the tunnel opens even wider. once you get past reserve, start getting lines and moving up in seniority, you start getting used to the scheduling disasters, the ups & many downs and before you know it, you develop "scheduling" armor of steel and it doesn't *hardly* phase you when the company calls up and reroutes them for an extra day. If you can get thru the rough times, times like these - then you were made to be a pilot's wife IMO and it should make you feel all the more "woman" - to be able to support your man the way most other women can't and/or won't. I just never understood why the regionals don't pay for training! Skyway did pay for doug's training.. but then even after that, reserve or holding a line, he could have gone to the welfare office and asked for assistance, it was that bad! |
