Default shots

So I FINALLY started my job on sept 28, and they tell me I have to get an employee health screening. Great. That involves a TB test PLUS I have to get the Hep. B vaccine since I haven't had it yet. I'm a big wuss when it comes to shots and so I've been freaking out about this since last week when I made my appointment for this morning. ANd I mean REALLY freaking out anyway, so this morning I go with my coworker to hold my hand (she got the flu shot) and so after reviewing my immunization records she's like ok, lets do this and there was a BIG note on my chart from the person who made the appointment that I was really freaked out and scared and that I would be bringing a friend. So she gets the tube of vaccine out of the fridge in the room there and i look over to see what she's doing and she has this HUGE FREAKIN NEEDLE which she's loading up! I FLIPPEd out and grabbed Karen's hand and burried my face while i got it. IT SUCKED. IT HURT. All those people who are like, it doesn't hurt you're a baby ... yeah MY BUTT it didn't hurt! So next she goes to do the TB test which for those not in the know, involves sticking a needle (another one!) under the first few layers of skin, and injecting something so it makes a bubble so they know it got in ya right. Well, now she has to do it in my other arm this time! so i grab karen's hand again, and she does it, and is like "oh that one didn't work we have to do it again!" WTF!! SERIOUSLY!?! I wanted to KILL her. so she did it again. I got stuck 3 FREAKIN times today!! ANd it HURT. And it STILL hurts!

The worst part is...I have to go back in a week incase this TB test is a false positive so I have to do this all over again! No one told me about that part of it!! so now i'm going to freak out for the next week about the next test! Then cause the hep B vaccine is a series of 3, i have to go bck in a month and then in 4 months!! my life is sucking right now!! To make matters worse, I have to go to the gyno in 2 weeks too!

At least when we were done Karen bought us tootsie pops...

I have to get the same thing! But I'm used to shots having grown up in the vaccination era. They give kids the Hep B, so Evan had the series.

We have to have the Tb mantou test reviewed in 72 hours. I'm curious about the week requirement.

I have to have the one I got done today, read in 48-72 hrs but in a week I have to have it redone incase it gives a false negative. The reason explained to me is that you might have been exposed to TB in the past and developed a low level of antibodies which are then further triggered by the test but not enough to cause a reaction at the site, but by doing a second test, there will be enough antibodies to react.

I always used to get McD's shakes after a shot ... yup, that's why i am the way i am today.. Micky D's shakes.. LOVE EM (can't have em anymore though )

Did you get shots in your arms or elsewhere? I've never had the TB shot, but i do literally remember the tetanus shot I got in my leg one year...ouch... if you think the arm hurts, don't even wonder if they tell you they're gonna stick you in your LEG!

I'm proud of you Em! you got thru the first series!!! now, once your done with em all - you won't have to worry about it anymore and that's something to look forward to!!

LOVE your use of the smiles.. I didn't realize till now just how emotional they make the words seem!

its not a TB shot persay, it's a test to make sure you don't have it. one that has to be repeated annually.

I got the Hep B one in my arm and the TB test was done on the opposite arm on the inside of my forearm.

Emily,
I'm so proud of you! When Ben gets his shots (and he's had the Hep B series) the nurse massages the area she will be sticking and sings "Jingle Bells" to him. He doesn't even shed a tear and then he gets a sticker (too young for lolli pops!)
He does better than I do. Everytime I get poked (even if its just drawing blood) my foot kicks out...its just a natural response. I kick nurses all of the time!

ok guys, cross your fingers and wish me luck. I have to under go the needle again today for part 2 of the TB saga. I'm going to ask for a DIFFERENT nurse this time, hopefully i won't have to get stuck twice again!
