I've been AWOL. Actually, to be honest, I've been "lurking" and not posting. Isn't that annoying?! I've been waiting to post, for my DH to come home with a new photo of himself in the plane, or next to the plane, or on the plane... the last photo I have is over a year old. The baby, (then 5 months old) and I surprised him mid trip, to spend his birthday with him in Albuquerque. I sat next to the nicest passenger on the way back. He was packing heat... I felt so safe. He wasn't an air marshal, but he was a law enforcement officer (I think on a reservation) and was truly a delight to talk to.

Christine, I had no idea all that was happening at Sierra. I have an ex-boyfriend who went through there (for his A&P) about a hundred years ago. Oh, I've been meaning to tell you, if you and your DH want to try a fun cafe, you can take Bart into the city, exit at 16th (I think) & go to Cafe Flore. One of my brothers-in-law (the one I like) bought the cafe last year & says the food & coffee is great. It's in the Castro, which always affords entertainment for the non-gay.

Next week, my Obstetrician may give me the o.k. to resume travel. (I had an issue with the pregnancy earlier, but it's gone now.) Unfortunately, the only travel plans I have in the works is a trip to the Middle-of-Nowhere-Montana, to see my grandmother. The most unfortunate part is that I have to deal with my own mother on this trip... but THAT topic requires a whole forum of it's own! Hmmm, maybe I'll be able to get a photo of my man at work, at that time.

Let's see... what else is new... we're settled into our new lives here in Denver. The weather is interesting; if it's not actively snowing, it's sunny, there doesn't seem to be an inbetween. But it's cold - too cold to go to the park. Oh, and I finally finished a handmade baby quilt for our daughter, (who is almost 19 months old.) I have pictures... It's official, I've become an old lady at 34!! To quote Meg Ryan, "I lead a small, but valuable life."

Kristie, can you post photos of the new kitty when you get it? I'm in major cat withdrawl. We just lost our two 13 year old cats, and I miss them. I miss sleeping next to them, most of all. I need a fix, but am unwilling to get a new one of my own.

Jeesh- this is a mishmash of different topics!
Nick finished IOE in Reading, PA last week and all went well from what he says. Afterwards he was supposed to go to his base in PIT, but fortunately for me, he was sent to do some flights in New Mexico and AZ! I was lucky enough to see him for a day last weekend-- picked him up at the airport at 2:30am Saturday morning and dropped him off Sunday morning at 9:30am. He told me tonight that not only will he be in the NM/AZ area this week, he will also be here all month! I may only be able to see him 1 day each week, but I'll take what I can get! My lil townhouse is empty without him. maybe later I'll enjoy the alone time, but right now I love having him around!

Note to Barbara- you're not an old lady! I'll be 34 in June and no husband or baby! Yet!

I've been gone for awhile as well. Everytime I would check this website it would say no new posts, then I realized when I converted to our new computer it wasn't signing me in...opps!
As to the driving question, my dh is a horrible driver! No violations, accidents, etc. which is amazing but I swear he thinks he's driving the Lear down the runway rather than our car!
I'm alone tonight as well. dh company had him in New York for 2 weeks, he came home yesterday morning and they shipped him back this afternoon until the 18th. Will I ever get used to this? He's applied to quite a few airlines hoping to get something that has more regular schedules. One of his friends works for america west and he's home 4 days/week everyweek guaranteed! How wonderful would that be!!!

of course, when we get new kitty - i'll post some photos and we'll probably be posting links to little "movie" files or something... i'm so excited, i just can't wait for kitty season to come up!! altho, i'm not sure how i'll handle having 3 cats in the house.. we're hunting for dog now too, but not sure when that'll go down. Miss not having a dog in the house - it's been 2 years now and everytime i go down to animal control, i end up leaving so sad cuz i didnt take one of the dogs... I'd probably make a great foster "animal" parent but i doubt doug would let me have that many animals in the house at any one time! haha :?

You'll start seeing him more and more once he really starts building up the seniority.. may take some time - but i'll get there!!

Doug's got a really crap schedule this month -> the typical, gone 4, home for 3.. but those 3 days are during the week and that's when i'm working.. so incompatible this month, it's not even funny!! and tonight, his last night home for the week - I have an open house/public meeting to do at which will keep me from home till at least 9pm. Apache Junction has no idea, but in 30 years time, they'll increase from 34,000 residents to 275,000.. amazing isn't it?! where ARE all the people coming from! :?:

Kristie-
Nick will be flying reserve for a while, I believe, so after he leaves NM/AZ in March, I don't think I'll be seeing him that much. For now though, I will spend some quality time with him any time he's home. Looks like I'll be picking him up at 5pm on Saturday and I'll drop him off again on Tuesday morning. I feel like a chauffeur!

He has been flying with a very senior captain all week- his seniority number is 3! Nick's trying to get the hang of things. He feels like he's not doing great yet...but he's comparing himself to somebody who has been flying for 25 years and the same route for a long time!

Tell Nick to give himself a break and go with the flow. before long, he'll get the hang of it - but first thing, have him concentrate on those landings because you always get a lot of thank you's and it completely impresses the captain when you have a better landing than he does (makes the captains feel guilty trying to figure out how to match it)! haha

I know what you mean about feeling like a chauffeur... I did that for several years (yes, years!) while dating doug - after a while, i felt like i was being taken advantage of and had him start renting cars when he came into town - but that was only after he got into delta. had i requested that during his regional time - we might not have continued dating because he just couldn't afford it! regionals can be a difficult time because of the money and stress of having to become fiscally sound with such a small paycheck and a girl to date. The only thing i learned was to enjoy the quality time and free things in life and if he wants to take you out - let him cuz it's the only way he can in a sense "pay you back" for being his chauffeur during this time. I remember our big thing was taking some stale bread and going for a walk in the park/feeding the ducks. taking a walk was free, good excercise and there were no distractions - so we had some really great conversations and what i would call "quality time" before the next trip. remember - it's the little things... the little things make the biggest difference, so concentrate on those!

btw - when will he be in town again? Maybe we could all meet up for a cup of coffee somewhere in snottsdale (btw - anyone else in the area would be welcome as well! ).

I just heard from Nick- he'll be coming in on Saturday evening. I'm sure he'll be a zombie like he was last weekend! Right now I don't mind picking him up at the airport and I actually look forward to it-- maybe because I can make it there in 15 minutes! If it was longer then I may be annoyed. I'm still at the stage where I want to park and meet him at the gate (no curb pick-up yet!).

We definitely have quality time when we're together. We have a favorite nearby sushi place and we take plenty of walks to the local park! We even go to a dog park around the corner. I guess we're lurkers since we don't have a dog, we just sit there and watch them run around. When we're asked where our dog is, we just point to a large group of dogs and say "he's over there somewhere!!"

I would definitely like to get together but I have to see if Nick made plans for this weekend. The last time he was home we were invited to a bunch of different places since his friends wanted to catch up and see how his job is going. A lot of his friends are still CFIIs and MEIs and they are dying to get hired somewhere. I know Nick would love to talk to Doug about the avaiation industry and I would love to meet you! Let me check with him and let you know. If not this weekend, he'll be back again in the next few weeks.
Amanda
P.S. Nick had the one questionable landing, but the Captain said that his other landings were really good and he was "above average". That's my guy!
