I know many of you may not care much, but this is the kind of thing that gets me giddy being a meteorologist. Our 29 straight hours of constant snow has finally ceased. I got out and took some "official" measurements once we were done shoveling. Our piles are taller than I am (5'2"). There was a lot of drifting once the winds picked up this morning. My measurements of snow accumulation ranged from 16" to 25", w/ more 25s than 16s. On average we got 22" of snow. Of course, other cities in the region got even more snow. Is there a certain pride in "who got the most snow?" Sure, but in the end, I prefer the 3"-6" range: pretty but still manageable. I took a few pictures that I'll get posted in a little while.

((YAWN)) Just kidding! I'm so jealous that we didn't get anything, so I love hearing about others snow accumulation. lol Now, I do not like the cold, but I love looking at all of it and the kids have a blast playing in it.

I can't wait to see your picts. It reminds me of a blizzard your area had when I was in college there...1996? We were totally socked in...very bad when you're a Marine like my husband was and living off base. I'll have to scan the picts and post them here. There was snow up to my mid thigh if I remember right. Then we had a "bean bag" fight. Lets just say a 6ft bean bag with a bunch of cabin-fevered, drunk Marines is not long for this world!

Yes! I think that was March 1996 ... a famous DC area storm, for sure. Here are our pictures so far: February 2010 Snowstorm Attached are a few highlights.

Thanks for checking in, Rebecca. 27" is most impressive. I hope your neighborhood is good about snow removal so you guys can get out. We are going to stay pretty cold over the next few weeks so I don't think the snow is going anywhere anytime soon. Will there be more school days tacked on in June to make up for the snowdays this winter?
