as of today, I'm taking:

Archeology of Europe
Understanding Race and Racism through Children
Global Health - Anthropological Perspectives
and Race and Ethnic Relations

I had been taking History of the Family in the US instead of the race and ethnic relations class, but that had WAY too much reading to do (over 100 pages for the first week) so I dropped it and returned the books. So half of that stack is gone now, and got $85 back for them, but I still had bought a $70 course pack which is not returnable

all those classes seem to be pretty interesting but I don't know about the race and ethnic relations one yet since i just signed up for the course!

ok so it's not quite a day in the life of a pilot wife...more the day in the life of a college student...but you get the idea :-D

It is nice to have a fellow student around. Your classes do sound interesting--what is your major and when are you set to graduate? I am taking Human Resource Management and a class all about the Department of Homeland Security. Roz, any ideas for a research paper for a graduate HR class? what are the hot topics in the HR field? I was supposed to read six chapters and two journal articles for tonight's class...i can't wait for christmas break! Hope you have a great semester Emily!

You too Dyane! I'm an Anthropology major, graduating in December, heading to work in the hospital full time after that (I'm working part time this fall) doing clinical research work. Which isn't lab type of stuff, i'm taking the stuff they come up with in the labs and apply it to the people! I start on Thursday.

Dyane do you have any specific interests?

Are you interested in recruiting, retention, training, benefits, compensation, compliance, ethics, global workforce, labor relations, managing diversity, etc.?

Benefits is a hot topic now since the costs are escalating and companies are trying to scale back. But they still need to remain competitive.

Ethics is a personal favorite with me as is compliance.

Another personal favorite is how companies can improve their bottom line by restructuring HR into a professional department instead of just finding a warm body to fill out forms.

Thank you for all of the ideas. I am in a group with four other people so hopefully we will be able to agree on a topic that everyone is at least slightly interested in. Retention, company loyalty, and employee motivation and job satisfaction all interest me a lot. It seems like it is hard to keep high quality employees, especially in government agencies because the pay can be so much more attractive in the private sector. Even when someone is doing a job that is beyond their job description and responsibilities, that person is unable to receive extra compensation $$ because of budget constraints. i love the benefits where I work but the low pay is driving me nuts! Thanks again! I'll keep you posted.

Dyane you might want to check out Marcus Buckingham's book. He does a good job in the retention arena through engagement of employees. I saw him speak once. Boy is he engaging!
