| Jetgirls Member | I know we have some teachers out there. I'm sure some of you have already started school and some of you (like me) are starting this week. What do your first few days of school look like? Do you have any professional or personal goals for this school year? Any good stories, yet?

| Well I started 8/11. We had a week of planning. During that first week, I had 12 meetings- it was insane. we team teach (its 7th grade) and our team had the first parent/teacher conference of the year- the students hadn't even started yet! I am teaching gifted students for the first time and it has definitely been interesting so far! Our first two days with the students were cancelled because of a tropical storm (I live in South Florida) so I have been easing my way into the school year LOL. My goal this year is to use more technology and cooperative groups within my lessons. I want to break up my lessons more so the students don't get as bored. I went to Home Depot and bought a piece of shower board (about $13) and asked them if they could cut me 12x12 mini whiteboards to use in my class. They did and the kids love them. I teach math so at the end of the class I try and have the students use the boards to practice problems. It works great! Good luck and have a great year : )

| Jetgirls Member | Ski, that is a terrifying nightmare. My first year of teaching I used to wake up in the middle of the night panicked because I was in my nightgown and I was convinced the students were on their way. Anna, I am liking the white board idea! I feel like I wouldn't know where to store the things, though. I have limited space. I teach high school English, by the way. This year I have an all sophomore (10th grade) schedule. I'm also team teaching one class this year. It will be the first time I've done this and I'm not really looking forward to it. I'm not a fan of group work ![]()

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | I have been back with students for a week and a half now. We had two days of meetings, three days of students, three day weekend, and then four days of students. It is nice to ease my way into the full time schedule. I am also coaching soccer for the first time this year. It is a new program, and we had over 100 students come out. We have our first game on Thursday, so we have to figure out how to select who is going to dress for the game. As for my classroom, I am really focusing on having the students being completely aware of their strengths and weaknesses. They all of their own portfolios, now I am weeding through short assessments to use for la and lit with my 7th graders. Hope everyone's year goes smoothly! |
