you'd be surprised on how quick they do this stuff... if they don't get on it right away, the folks who did it can get away and never be found.

Frostwire? is that a peer to peer network?

Brenda- I am so sorry this happened to you!

Nick had a credit card number stolen when he was in Europe not too long ago. I think pilots are more likely to get their identity stolen because of the unsecured networks they use sometimes. The person who stole his CC bought and sent us a bunch of stuff- gevalia coffee maker/coffee, and my favorite- Girls Gone Wild videos! I was like "huhhhhh?!" Nick looks at his account every day and knows what's in there to the penny so he caught it pretty fast. It was still a PITA to get it fixed.

I had my checking account number stolen in AZ (still don't know how it happened). A quick store clerk caught it thank goodness. I still had to change ALL of my CCs, bank account, etc. It was horrible so I feel your pain.

I have had this happen to me also. It is such a pain in the rear end. Luckily my bank called me and asked me If I had been to Mexico recently, I said I wish and they took care of everything. Hope everything works out and they find the scum bags!

This thread just influenced me to check my bank account. I don't check it as often as I should and really... there isn't much in there for anybody to steal! I'm poor!

I'm sorry Brenda, I know that what you are going through is awful and such an invasion of your privacy!

JRLenz--they are called airport snipers and they have networks with employees.
First off--your best bet is to never use a debit card, check you cc acct frequently and cover the area when you use your pin at any atm. if there is any issue with an airport facility/restaurant, there is recourse. You can insist that you accompany the card for imprint and have it handed back immediately, etc.
I really don't know why people use debit or check cards for anything in a such a vulnerable public arena. At least with a CC you're protected and with an ATM there are limits you can set personally with your bank.

Looks like almost everything will be covered and will be credited to our acct withing 2 weeks. Theya re still working on it and can take a bit though. We switched cards where dh's max will be a lot less that waht my daily limit of 4,000 is. The USair credit union is only 1000 a day which always became a prob if we were buying big, we'd have to call and get it open for the transaction.
We use debit cards for everything because we pay cash for everything. It usually is fine.We have absolutely no debt, except our house. I guess we'll have o think of using a credit card for dh though.

Brenda, we have switched to a reloadable visa check card, which we set up through our bank. we can load it from our checking account, but it is no way tide to the account. We haven't been very good about it, but I think now we are going to get pretty serious about it.
