well, that just sucks! are there any other stores you can relocate to? how long are they giving you?

I got a week of severance and about a week plus of vacation stashed away...so i think i'll be good for 3 weeks before i really need to pound pavement.

local funds for training? i thought only airline pilots could do something like that? yea...i already filed for unemp this afternoon. this time, i think i'll probably use it for a bit cuz last time, i found this past job within a week of being laid off. i think this time, i'm gonna review firms a little more and maybe switch sectors entirely from engineering to planning (planning only firms). the problem with engineering firms right now is that a lot of them have laid off and a lot of the smaller businesses are closing shop. so i have a feeling this time will probably take longer and more effort.

What a bummer Kristie! I wish you the best! I work in the medical field, its always been what I considered a pretty "stable" industry... my hospital laid off about 200 people in the past 2 months... its crazy everywhere!!

Nope--there's money out there. My son was laid off and is back in school--paid tuition plus collecting.

You are wise to take your time--make sure it's a right fit for you.

Cripes. And that's not much of a pay-off, is it? We get a month minimum in the UK if you've been with your company for over a year.

You'll be fine, though. You're resourceful! x

Sorry to hear, But I would take up Roz's idea and go back to school, and get that unemployment until you find something that you like and that is stable.

But of course I can say that I still have a job, but you are in my thoughts.Hope you fins something you like.

well, i can't be a stay at home pool girl without the pool (we put that on indefinite hold)... thank the lord we hadn't signed anything yet, we were too close on that.

and yea, he's already been working major OT to help pay for the pool the last few months and he's already offered to keep working like that if needed.... I honestly don't want to see that happen because it's like he gets no home time then and at some point, he'll start burning out. don't really want to see that happen.

As it is, I'm looking at Masters degrees and certificates but noticing how expensive they are. I'm not sure i'd get a high enough raise to pay for those types of loans. so i definitely need to do more research on the whole thing.

wondering if maybe i should look into a 2nd career vs going for a Masters for the 1st career...Anyone else have 2 careers they work on? or is the 2nd career seen more as a "backup"? wondering more about a service career than anything...hospitality, culinary, bartending, facial/massage, real estate etc.
