Default Anybody get Readers Digest -Pilot article

Hey there. I had to laugh-hard the other night when I opened my Readers Digest and found this article.

Airplane Pilot Shares His Thoughts | Your America | Reader's Digest

I particularly like the part where he assures his passengers that he doesn't have any scissors or oversized shampoo bottles either!

I'm a little surprized to see it in a very wide-reaching magazine like this but GREAT! Now if he'd only thrown in comments about pay and down time in airports......

There is a lot more to the article in the actual magazine. It talks a lot about pilot fatigue and low entry hours due to fewer pilots coming in to the field from the military. It also mentions that "the industry will need to hire 100,000 new pilots by 2020 to keep up with demand according to Air Inc, a company that tracks pilot hirings; this exceeds the current capacity of flight schools."

Very interesting.....

Jackie

Now that IS great!! I'm more happy to see this article in a magazine like this than I would be if it were in a newspaper. Don't get me wrong, newspapers are great, but the article would only be out there for one day. Now it'll be on display for an entire month! Woo hoo. Hopefully, it'll open at least a few people's eyes. It'll be interesting to read letters to the editor next month.

I actually do have a subscription... was this in July's? I don't think I have it yet.

Oh that is great! I love it. I can't wait to send it to hubby. I'm pretty sure our reader's digest hasn't come in the mail yet, so I also love that he will be reading it first from me!

Thanks!

I don't quite like the jab at the regional jets, but aside from that it was entertaining.

It's aviation industry, there is enough room for jabs at almost everyone.

The article to the right about air traffic control industry is pretty interesting too. Iamachickadee75, your post has all sorts of good reading. Thanks!

I'm going to up it up in the brekroom at MY work. to bad they didn't say anthing about pay, then that would take care of the "if my husband was a pilot I wouldn't wok..."
