| Ok after talking with a much more active and green friend of mine last night, I am pumped up to try some other method of getting to work other than driving my car. I live 6.8 miles from work, which is Downtown Nashville. The weather, so far, is nice. Gas has hit the $3.60ish mark and doesn't look like it will be coming down anytime soon. Lucky for me my job offers a FREE employee transit card. So my game plan is to ride my bike about 2 miles to the closest bus stop (almost 1 mile of which is the residental street that I live on), get on a bus heading downtown (the website says all buses are equiped with a bike rack). Get off at the Transit Mall and ride my bike 3 blocks to the building where I work. Estimating and guesstimating, I will need to leave my house 30 mins earlier than my normal time and will be home 30 mins later in the afternoon. (I am calling this gym time, even though I won't be on my bike the whole time!) I've applied for the transit card (it takes about 2 weeks to get). I will be heading to my mom's this weekend to retireve my bike. Have to purchase a helmet. Also need to do some brushing up on the rules of the road concerning bikes and cars. So bye bye fat thighs and high gas prices!!! |

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | I would LOVE to ride the bike...but the NC roads are so narrow, I'd be blown off by any car/truck, plus I live about 10-15ish miles out of the city/my job/ gym...I could ride to the grocery store, (ALL uphill) but I'd have the issue of getting my food all home!!?! Yeah, for you though, that's awesome, and yes, bike riding gives lovely legs!!

| I just bought a bike about 2 months ago and barely have time to ride it. I would like to ride my bike to work however there is so much traffic (and bad drivers) in South Florida that i'm afraid i'd be taking my life in my hands every morning! It sounds like you have a pretty good set up with the free transit card. Let me know how it goes.
