| Jetgirls Member | Last April I found a '95 Chevy Lumina for $2500 with only 75,000 miles on it I bought it from a woman who was selling it because it previously belonged to her deceased mother and she took really good care of it. Well... almost 3 months later I was at work and on my break running to get some food and all of a sudden, my car wouldn't accelerate beyond 35 mph. and was making this terribly loud clunking sound under the hood. Mind you, I'm working in a part of town where all the main roads are 55 mph... So here I am, freaking out and trying to drive this car back to work at least so I wouldn't be late. I got it back to work, called my dad and let him listen to the car over the phone... Turns out I needed a new engine. $3500. I figured I'd spend the $3500 on a new engine instead of spending that money on an what would be an obviously used car with it's own set of problems to deal with. So, now I have my Lumina with a new engine and she runs like a dream ![]()

| Another car breakdown story to add to the pile. . . I-65 Southbound out of Nashville. Evening rush hour traffic. In the fast lane. At least 75 mph. Slight up hill. The transmission goes. I seriously thought I was going to die before I got it to the side of the road. All forward motion just stopped!! I felt like I was rolling backwards while everyone else was going forward very fast. I got the car from my parents super cheap years before the transmission went. So even with a 3k transmission, I was still in the black on the car. Car troubles are the worst. Expensive, dangerous, and leave you very stranded!! |

| Awwwwwww, that is so sad!! We had so many fun memories in that car. Well, so I am exaggerating. I was only in your car like once or twice, but still!!! That sucks. What are your plans?? I know you are against grand ams, but I know someone who drives a pretty sweet one if your interested!! I am sure she will be more than willing to let you take over payments if you want!! JK ![]() |

| Jetgirls Plus Member ![]() | Your car is pretty sweet, I can't lie. Went to Car Max last night and test drove a newer Accord coupe and a 3 series BMW. Leaning toward the Beemer. My boyfriend is all for the later, you know that. ![]() We'll see what happens.

| Admin/Owner ![]() | you know... they do have that sign and drive thing going on with the VW's... they're just as nice as the beemers....a sweet little Jetta might work just as good as an accord....they're apparently really good on gas and have better security than accords (i think). I just know accords are big on the stolen list. an idea i thought of ![]()

| Admin/Owner ![]() | other than that, i've got a white 1994 grand am with 105K miles on it that we'd be willing to sell for $1650... of course, it'd have to get fixed so it stops overheating first (probably water pump issue). HAHAHAHA oh, i crack myself up ![]()

| Yeah... and I have a Jetta (2003, bought it new) and I LOVE it!!!!!! It's been great and fun to drive! I haven't had to pay for any major repairs... (I had to get a new catalytic convetor, but VW covered the cost completely) I have 93,000 miles or so... I paid it off early, and I am still in love with my car... Anyhow, that's my little review....Also... about Carmax.. I went there to test drive some cars (I test drove a BMW, too - it felt too heavy to me) and when they were telling me about their financing... They acted like I was lucky to get a 9+% interest rate... and then I went to VW, and they gave me 2.9%... (Their best rate was 1.9% at the time, but they gave me 2.9% since it was my first car loan) Anyhow... I really think that Carmax is a rip off... They spend so much time talking about "no haggle" prices, but just because they don't let you haggle, doesn't make it a good deal! I have a friend who bought he car there because we have a friend who works there, and she really regretted it later after she realized that she couldn't done a lot better elsewhere... I tried to warn her... Anyhow, that's just my humble opinion... You have to figure out what works best for you! Last edited by Mrs.Alchemist; 03-27-2008 at 05:51 PM. |
