Taxes were a really sore spot for me this year!
Me and SO already did ours. He is getting back more then me but oh well. We both just did our own (okay he did mine ) I am not getting very much back and was really frustrated at first because I needed that money to move but now that it is over there really isn't anything I can really do about it. It sucks but atleast I am getting a little back.

Oh that is an easy one. We have a super high sales tax rate, 9.25%, so the state makes their money on every item purchased at the store.

Holy crap!!! That *is* high! And I thought sales tax was high out here in CA! In Monterey its 7.25% in most places. A few pockets have sales tax as high as 7.75% and 8.25%. For once, CA isn't the most expensive.

Spotty4, I just sent you an email too with some tax things to think about.

Yeah, we have a high tax rate. My brother and I learned to tip by doubling the tax and rounding up, now that he has lived in places other than TN, he carries a tipping chart in his wallet cause he can't figure out the apporiate tip!

I figure all of the dhs have been instructors at some point, so as "independent contractors" how much did you alll deduct as far as other things you can deduct like gas and driving, things like that. This is the first year as an instructor to be doing taxes, and I really don't want to deduct too much and get in trouble.

Might want to check out Tax Act File Taxes Online - Do Taxes FREE - File Taxes With TaxACT for a free filing of return. It is really simple to answer questions and it does a lot of the work for you (reminds me a lot of Turbo Tax). I use it on some of the easier returns that I do for friends and family. The least bit complex you have to upgrade to the 9.99 version, but that is still cheaper than Turbo Tax.
