Default childfree by Choice

I saw this posted at school the other night. Its a social club for people who are childless by choice. There is a chapter starting up here in town but here is the main website.

No Kidding! A social club for childfree singles and couples

I'm writing an article for my newspaper on women who choose not to have kids, and I recently found out about NO KIDDING! while doing research. Pretty cool idea, isn't it? I keep trying to get in touch with CT women who are involved so I can use them for the article, but it's tough.

I'll probably be asking any childfree women here if they'll be willing to be 'interviewed' for an article. (Seriously.)

Funny thing - the two I've interviewed so far (not from here - found them online through blogs) don't want their last names used. That says a lot about either a) the way women who don't want children are perceived, or b) the way women who don't want children THINK they're perceived.

Seat, you can interview me any time. And I will give my last name, loud and proud. I love children so much that I've made them my job, but I don't have even the slightest desire to come home to them at the end of the day and I am not ashamed to say it.

Thank you! I'll very likely take you up on that sometime in the next few weeks (article isn't due until March, sometime. I think.)

I, too, think people have some preconceived notion of people that choose not to have kids, and I think a lot of women know it. I have heard people say that it is selfish not to have children, but in my opinion, it is selfish to have a child just because society is pushing you into it. Most people think that I am one of those people that judge because they don't have kids or don't want kids; actually, I am quite the opposite. I definetly feel that those that don't want kids shouldn't have them. They may or may not change their mind down the road, but I would rather hear that people decided not to have kids for whatever reason than that someone had them just because...., without really wanting them in the first place. If they do change their mind, their is always adoption or other options, so it is nice that there is support for those who know that they don't want them. Did that make sense?

Absolutely! There's no reason to have kids if you don't want them, and having them to appease some subset of society is selfish - you're birthing children to avoid being judged? Ick.

But NO KIDDING! isn't a support group (not wanting children isn't something that really requires support...it's not hard ). It's a social network for people who want to hang out with other adults who don't have kids.

I'm noticing, as I get closer to my mid-thirties, that it's unusual to find people my age who don't have children. A place like NO KIDDING! makes it easier, I guess. (I'm not a member, and I'm not considering joining, but I'm not a joiner of many things.)

NO KIDDING! sounds very interesting. No Indiana chapters though. When you don't have kids (or want them) it can be hard to identify with some of the issues people who do have.

I am pretty sure I want kids someday, but I am still batting it around back and forth all the time. I feel I could go either way, but I'm sure this is only because I am young still and we are not married yet. Definitely not ANY time soon though! Feel free to interview me too if you feel I fit your criteria.
