Every time I hear apartment stories I cringe...it remind sme how lucky we are have our house evn though somedays it can be struggle! In my last apartment I had a guy downstairs that did something similar with the music and it is enough to drive you crazy! He had the bass turn up and it just would thud and thud, you could never just hear the song, talk about a headache. Two to three months before I moved out a family moved in next door and the Mom would cook a root, or sometype of curry or rice and beans -- I could never determine! And though I love ethnic food to go out to a restaurant or whatever it stunk up my entire apt. and all my clothes, everthing! I would smell it constantly..and that's not fun in the morning or when you get a shower etc. you just don't want to smell like food. I got such headaches -- of course the apt. staff did nothing and claimed everyone has the right to live as they do. Don't miss that life! Apts. are great if you just have no one around you and we all now that's usually not the way it works!

I agree with Kristie, call the cops if it happens again.

Oh, here's one of my many bad apartment neighbor stories....

When my son was born, hubby was on a 2nd year f.o. salary. We had a lot of medical bills with my son, so we lived in a very cheap apartment.

The first apartment we had, the windows had like a 2 inch gap that was allowing snow to come in the apartment. The maintenance man came to fix it...by nailing the windows shut! Then mold started growing on the wall of the apartment....so, they moved us to a new apartment in the complex.

We had 4 apartments in our building (2 upstairs, 2 down). We were one of the downstairs. Well, I kept smelling a funny smell come through our door...I have never even tried a drug in my life, but I was at a party once where there was pot, and the smell just grossed me out...so, anyway, that same smell was coming through my door almost daily. I tried putting a towel under the door and such, and then finally I said to my 50 something year old neighbor that lived with her 20 year old son, "Ya know, I think I keep having the smell of marijuana come through our door. Does your son perhaps do marijuana?" My shock was when she said, "Of course, we both do! Why?" I had to explain to her that it was coming through the door of my apartment, and I would appreciate anything they could do for it to stop. She said that she would just smoke it in the back bedroom from then on....

So, we moved right after that...to a nicer set of apartments for yuppies (but with a great first year rent)...which is why the people that moved in upstairs to us ended moving in too...too bad they were drug dealers posing as college students.

Then we finally got a house, turns out, after buying the house in one of the best school districts in our area, that I began having these awful nightmares that someone was in the house. We lived there less than 2 years, but for those 2 years I had horrible nightmares. Hubby told me (after we moved out because he didn't want to scare me) that our next door neighbor told him that the person living there 2 times before us had committed suicide in the house. That is why the people before us bought the house on foreclosure for a very cheap amount.

Then we moved here...right next door and down the street to family...

I still can't decide which one of these was the worst. ha ha

I agree, apartments are great and worry free if you don't live next to anybody!! At our old apartment they didn't keep as high occupancy and for a few month stretch last year we had nobody living below or next to us and we were a top floor end unit! It was GREAT.

Regina, that story about your house is really creepy.. wow.

Last night as we went to bed it was quiet but I was woken up around 12:30 with that same music... not as loud as last night. Went back to bed. Woke up at 1:44. I don't think this woman who lives below us sleeps! And does she know what HEADPHONES are?!!?!!?!?

I'm talking to the apartment people today in person since we didn't get a response from our e-mail.

I too have some apartment horror stories. Neighbors making *music* everynight (gross!). Downstairs neighbor with surrond sound, every movie sounded like the dinos in Jurassic Park stomping around. Thanks guys for reminding me to add "my house" to my thankful prayers each night.

But on a different note. . . while in college my brother had some tv noise problems with an apartment neighbor. Did the whole banging on the door, calling the complex, and (I believe) calling the police. Did some snooping around, saw the guy laid out in the floor of the bathroom from a window. Guy was dead. My brother said it was the first time he had seen a dead body outside of funeral home.

I would agree that you need to "check out" the situation if you can't get a response from your neighbor and the same song continues to play.
