PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Three people found dead in a home in Providence died of carbon monoxide poisoning and not of foul play, as the police originally suspected.
The state medical examiner's office said preliminary results show the man, woman and teenage boy whose bodies were found decomposed on Monday died of carbon monoxide.
The bodies were discovered by police after a relative and neighbor weren't able to get in touch with the family who lived at the home. Police Chief Dean Esserman initially said the department was investigating the deaths as a homicide.
But later Monday, police said a boiler recently put in the home wasn't installed correctly. They said the home had high levels of carbon monoxide.
The victims haven't been identified.
