Default Hey Michelle: Add Carbon Monoxide Detectors!

Today's news...

Quote:
PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Three people found dead in a home in Providence died of carbon monoxide poisoning and not of foul play, as the police originally suspected.
The state medical examiner's office said preliminary results show the man, woman and teenage boy whose bodies were found decomposed on Monday died of carbon monoxide.
The bodies were discovered by police after a relative and neighbor weren't able to get in touch with the family who lived at the home. Police Chief Dean Esserman initially said the department was investigating the deaths as a homicide.

But later Monday, police said a boiler recently put in the home wasn't installed correctly. They said the home had high levels of carbon monoxide.
The victims haven't been identified.
might not be a bad idea to add carbon monoxide detectors to your list!

Kristie the entire website is about both gas and CO. The one detector takes care of both issues.

As I understand it, nearly every home has a CO detector. Its the natural gas detector/portion that homes lack.

Here is yet another incident of CO poisoning. At least these folks were treated and survived.

WILLOWS, Calif. -- Seven people have been hospitalized after suffering carbon monoxide poisoning from a propane lantern they brought inside during a power outage in a severe winter storm.
Sgt. Jim Miranda of the Glenn County Sheriff's Department said a boy in the house about 30 miles outside Chico woke up when he heard his sister collapse in the bathroom Saturday. Shortly afterward, two others collapsed.
Forty-three-year-old Pa Xiong and two pregnant women ages 16 and 19 were sent to Enloe Medical Center in Chico for treatment of possible carbon monoxide poisoning. The other four family members, all between the ages of 10 and 16 years old, were taken to UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
Miranda said several were unconscious or nauseous upon arrival.
Where I live there are a lot of poor immigrants and illegal aliens that live many families to a single (small) house. Sometimes they'll live w/o gas or electricity (b/c of the cost). To stay warm they'll light up a gas grill!! It never fails, at least one story each winter is about CO death in an enclosed home from some non-conventional form of a heater.
