Default Personal DVD players...?

Does anyone have any personal dvd player recommendations? I would like to get one in the next month or two, but it seems like the reviews are so mixed on the players. I can't find one that seems to be a reasonable price with good reviews. Heck, I can't find one that is a expensive price with good reviews.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. This would mostly be for just me watching a dvd in bed or something. I don't have a television in my room, so it would be nice to be able to watch a dvd while I am lying down. I would also like to be able to take it on a trip if we go somewhere.

Thanks, in advance, for the help and suggestions.

If you have a laptop you can use that instead or truthfully you would probably be better off just buying a small tv with the dvd player included. They're cheaper and usually work better.

No, we don't have a laptop, but that definetly is another good reason to maybe buy one.

If it were up to my husband, there probably wouldn't be any tv's in the house, so I was looking for something that can be put out of site. He is okay with getting one, but I don't think he wants to see it. He grew up a lot different than me...my mom and dad have 4 t.v.'s in there house right now, and it is just the two of them. He grew up with one t.v. in the house. My husband likes the t.v's to be hidden in an armoire so he doesn't have to look at them. On the otherhand, I like to have some radio or movie going on in the background for company. Go figure...

Thanks for the idea though. I appreciate it.

We bought a Panasonic for about $100 about a year ago. It has dual headphone capablity and a remote. It seems just fine to me. It fits between the front seats of our truck to sit on the console. It has survived several airplane and car trips with DS. I think I'll start traveling with popcorn and charge admission for all the people who watch over DS's shoulder! LOL I like the Laptop idea for your situation but found that with ours the batteries didn't last long enough and was too heavy to travel with easily.

Regina,

I got one at Costco, Audiovox, 9 inch Wide Screen. It came with 2 headsets, remote, and a case. The case can also be strapped to the backseat of a car. I could not find any reviews on this model. It has an awesome picture and the sound is very good as well. I got it for my husband to use on long overnights. He rents a couple of movies (mostly ones I'm not interested in watching) and kills some time that way. I think it was around $100. He is very happy with it so far.

We bought a Polaroid dvd player that actually included a main unit and a secondary viewing screen. I laugh because the unit came with a remote, but we haven't used that much. It's not like you are going to sit clear across the room when viewing a movie on this dvd player. We purchased this unit from Circuit City and are very pleased with it. We have never had any problems with this dvd player and have used it quite a bit. It has been a great investment for us. If nothing more than 1 1/2 of quiet when traveling long distances!

On long road trips we put one of the screens in between the middle two seats of the mommy van and the other screen is placed in between the last two seats. That way the two kids in the back are able to see the same movie as the two kids in front. We have also used this method in the airplane and it has worked well. While traveling though we usually only take the main unit and bring a couple Netflix videos that the kids haven't seen. We always meet new "friends" at the airport when the video comes out, but it's all good.

Regina,
I am pretty sure this is the one I bought my DH back in Feb - Insignia® - 8.5" 16:9 Widescreen LCD Portable DVD Player - NS-PDVD8 We certainly got from a Best Buy store and I seem to remember it was an Insignia around this price. There was an even cheaper one in Target at the time (a cool red one!) but the screen was very small. He has used it to death on overnights and it works beautifully so I am told. The only thing he has said annoys him is that if the DVD stops for some reason (e.g. if the power cord gets pulled out) then the whole film restarts (rather than just starting where it broke off) but, at that price, he's happy to put up with it! All of the cheap ones do seem to have the problem that they're not at their best unless on a flat surface, which might be a problem in bed, but he gets round it by resting it on a book or two.
Hope the pregnancy is going ok.
Katherine
