Default New Year's Resolutions?

It is only a matter of time before someone types this tread, so I will go ahead and do it. . . Anybody have any New Year's Resolutions that they want to share? Do you keep your resolutions?

I'll go first. I always make resolutions. I give them very serious thought. I keep the list and at the end of year double check and see how everything worked out.

I am still working on 2008's list but I have a few in mind already. I have some that already fit under the chore heading but I am looking to borrow/steal some that could go under the fun heading.

No way! Don't believe in 'em.

(What do you mean go under the 'chore' heading? do you mean they'll be a chore to accomplish, or that your resolution is to do certain chores...? You got me so curious! Ooh! And what's a 'fun' resolution? C'mon...your post is a tease. )

I need to loose weight too. But I don't consider it a "New Years" thing... Since the move, I haven't sucessfully gotten back into my routine of working out. Christmas has only delayed this process seeing as though for the last few weeks I have spent preparing for it after work and on weekends I end up cleaning and unpacking still.

I just need to settle still and get back into my routine.. I usually work out 4-6 times a week! I want that back.

Our New Years resolution is to get rid of cable TV w/ no problems/regrets. Fiance will be fine w/ it ... he gets his cable in the hotel rooms. I'm home a lot more than him, so I'll miss it more.

We can't justify the cost for cable TV + internet around here. So we're keeping just internet. So come the new year, it'll be time to focus time and attention to other things than watching TV: reading, knitting, webbifying, sewing, perhaps netflix, youtube, etc ...

I think we'll be fine and I'm excited for the "challenge" to live w/o something I've had for just about as long as I can remember.

We haven't gotten cable since we've moved to Indy and we've been fine. We hooked the cable into the wall and got a few channels. We have, CBS, NBC, ABC (very fuzzy), and PBS. Honestly, I don't really mind if we ever get basic cable. I have an extensive collection of DVDs/VHS tapes if I need entertainment.

I'm sure your transition to "sans cable" will be fine.

Sorry didn't mean to be mysterious, just my list isn't finished and I don't know yet if I want to commit to all the items that I am thinking about yet. My list last year had 34 itmes on it, of which I have achieved 29. (I told you I took these resolutions seriously.)

Under "fun" (yes I really catorgize them) last year I had a goal to take ballet lessons, which I did and had a lot of fun. The year before I had take ballroom dance lessons. The ballet lessons lasted for 10 weeks. The ballroom dancing was something that hubby liked also and we kept that up for a year and a half.

Under "chore" I am thinking about attempting to keep my oven & fridge clean with a monthly/quarterly spring cleaning.

I didn't share my list because I am not done. And it gets pretty long. I am a huge list maker. (When I work, I make a list every morning and poritize the items. Do a check after lunch and at the end of the day.) I make a lot of home check list too.

So far I am sure of only a few items. I want to read the entire Bible again in 2008. I will probably have a goal to read a certian amount of books (probably 50, I used to aim for 100 but my job took so much time, it wasn't very obtainable.) I am thinking about a committment to some changes in my eating habits, too. I don't diet, but I think resolving to eat a serving of veggies and fruit everyday would be a good change. I have some personal goals for my marriage and my finances too. Some of my items are one time or short term events others are habits or changes that I am hoping to adopt to become a lifestyle change. I also always include a few that I think are a little far out there but that gives me something to work for.

I know this post really shows off my type A personality. (Did I ever mention that I am an accountant?) I have had a lot of years to refine this list making habits.

After thinking about it for awhile, I finally came up with 2 resolutions. 1.) Take my vitamins EVERY day 2.) Reply to emails as soon as I get them. I'm usually good about taking vitamins for a few few weeks, then I'll forget one day, and all of the sudden, I'm not taking vitamins any more. That's stupid, and there's no reason for it. As far as emailing goes, I am THE WORST replier ever. I'm sure that's annoying to family and friends, so I'm really going to try to keep up on it.

My opinion on resolutions used to fluctuate. I used to not really see the point in commiting one's self to impossible tasks. Now, I view them completely differently. A new year or a birthday is a perfect time to reassess and try to make changes. If they work out, great. If not, I'm not going to beat myself up over it. The changes are always positive, even if they're only temporary.

Shelly, we, too, went awhile without cable and did just fine! We caved in getting it in September for 2 reasons: Football season and a wedding gift plasma. Right now I'm ok with having it because we have some 1 year special with the cable company where our cable is only $5 extra a month. That was easy to justify at the time of purchase, but we'll see how I feel come next September when the price jumps back to its normal rate!
