Default Best Friend Robbed on Christmas Eve

Grrrr. While my BFF and her husband were out of town visiting family, her apartment was robbed on Christmas Eve. I just want to punch somebody in the face for them.

The apartment was a 6 month in between time when they sold their house and their new was being built (closing Jan 9th). They had purchased a 47 inch flat plasm tv on Black Friday (getting up at 4 am). And had also purchased by luck a 50 inch flat plasm tv from a flyer by the mailbox. Both tv's gone. Computer gone. Cookware gone. DVD's gone. Kitchen table and chairs gone. Jewerly gone. Patio furniture gone. The bastards even took all the food out of the fridge and cabinets including open mayo, ketchup, and eggs. And what they didn't take they destroyed. Ripped up the mattresses. Knocked over tv stand. Broke dresser drawers. Threw around and walked on all their clothes.

Luckily BFF had renters insurance but no telling how long that will take. And what a pain in the butt to go and replace everthing.

Oh my god, that's terrible. You would think since it's an apartment, someone would have seen something...

How awful to go through and on Christmas Eve no less!!! I'm terrified of something like that happening to me… I've had my car broken into twice and had a car stolen once; that sense of violation was bad enough - but I've always thought that having your home broken into would be worse. It feels like such a violation of privacy - the sense of violation seems worse than just having your possessions stolen. And of course they inevitably steal something that has no real monetary value, but tons of sentimental value. In one of my cases, my car was broken into in the garage at work a week after my dad died -- they broke a window and stole a CD player and my dad's briefcase. The CD player I didn't care about, the window was an annoyance to replace, but my dad's briefcase had nothing in it of value… but it was something that was part of him - he carried that thing everywhere. It just broke my heart. My bf was robbed at gunpoint only a few weeks after we'd been dating (what idiots… they robbed a CFI, like he really had any money!!!), and in addition to stealing his wallet & cell phone, they told him to empty his pockets and they stole some pictures he had and his baseball cap!!
Argh. I just don't understand why people do things like that. I have no respect for criminals.. It absolutely makes my blood boil when I hear about stories like yours. If there is anything good in this, at least they weren't home when it happened.. You never know what might've happened. I'll be sending good vibes & prayers towards your friend… I hope that those responsible are caught!!!!!

A lady cleaning empty apartments in the building saw two black guys moving out tv's. That is how they know they were robbed on Christmas Eve (they were gone all long weekend). But you know how it is in apartments. They didn't take time to meet any neighbors as they were to be there only a short time. And someone is always moving in and out, so nothing supisicous about a couple of guys moving tv's.

This still makes my blood boil thinking about it, even now many hours after hearing about it.

They took the keys to her hubby's truck too. They rummaged around in the truck but didn't actually take it. I suppose the title issues or might be more easily caught out driving it. Still BFF is going to have the truck rekeyed. Who could sleep at night knowing that theives have keys to your vechile?

Oh, that is so horrible. Do they have any leads to who it was? It sounds odd that someone knew that they were gone and were able to take everything, especially something so large, without anyone noticing it. and to have someone destroy their things and take cookware?...just seems very odd to me, like it was someone that they knew that had a vendetta against them or something. Hope all works out for them.

Couldn't the police get prints if they broke into the house and the truck? It seems like since they broke into both, it would be easier to match the prints...or maybe I have just seen too many csi type movies...

wow... !

From the way you describe it, its like whoever robbed them was out to get them. Stomping on their clothes and tearing apart the mattress??? Why go through all of that trouble? That's just crazy.

Much sympathy to your friend!

Have you even seen the television show on Discovery Channel called It Takes a Theif? It is hosted by 2 ex-burglars and allows the viewers to get an insider view of what goes on in the head of thieves. For them it is a livelihood. They do not car about the morality of stealing. They do not care about the harm they're causing. To them, you are just the next big stash. "Professional" thieves are VERY calculated and have clear intentions and a deliberate plan. They take the time to stake out their next "score" and plan their details of its execution.

So for those of us that simply can't imagine why someone could do this to another ... well, we weren't meant to be thieves.
