| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | I love yoga and I hope you feel the same way. My advice is to stick w/ it. Yoga is difficult. It seems like a lot of ill informed people think yoga is easy and relaxing. Yoga can be relaxing, certain poses and styles, but not yoga in general. Yoga is a lot of work and requires vigilant repetition in order to really visualize the benefits. So stick w/ it and I garauntee you'll love it! Also, for me, the best way to get the most out of yoga is to have a good instructor. My most favorite instructors have been the ones that walk around the room and adjust you in your pose that you are doing it properly. After a few times of in-pose adjustments you'll begin to learn how the pose is supposed to feel and you'll do it properly (alignment, posture, etc ...). |

| I do a lot of yoga, mostly hatha and vinyasa "power" yoga. It can be relaxing, but not always in the way you expect. A big part is just about being self-aware. It's important to accept what you can do and don't expect to look like "everyone else." I find it relaxing in that respect, focusing on your body and your mind, and letting it all go. The physical part isn't always comfortable, or relaxing, while you're doing it, but I always feel great afterwards. Just pay attention to yourself so you don't go to far, but work your limit to reap the most benefits. ![]()

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | oh man, it was fun. I don't know really what style of yoga we did, but last night i reached down to touch my toes and almost made it!! I was really impressed, but then this morning i tried to do it again, and I was barely passed my knees. It's amazing how much more limber i was after an hour - let's me know it really is doing something! I'm going to stick with it - we didn't do a whole ton of poses, it seemed more like streching, but i think that was more cause it was the first day... we'll see! |

| I ditto the stay with it, you will love the results and the way you feel! for me it took awhile for the results, but I loved the long lean muscle tone that I got from yoga, I wanted so bad to take a p/g yoga class, but it was a no go. ![]()

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Try to do what you learned at home as well, don't just wait for your once a week class. I think the 3 keys to overall good physical health are 1-strength, 2-endurance, and 3-flexibility. IMO, you have to cover all 3 areas in your exercise routine to have complete physical health, and I think yoga is a great way to take care of the flexibility part. (So is ballet, wanna take ballet with me once I get this kid out? LOL) |

| My yoga story. Went one time with a friend as a guest at her gym. I felt so uncomfortable and out of place. I couldn't do any of those postions very well. I felt like a fool and must have looked like one too. My expectations were way too high (I thought it would be easy and I would have no problem). I do have a ballet story to add to the mix, TheWife. Did ballet when I was a kid (not that I remembered any of it). Always wanted to try it again as an adult. I put it on the New Year's resolution list for 2007 and did it at the beginning of the year. 10 weeks, 2 nights a week. It was tough. I am old and not very limber anymore. It was hard to find adult class. They required you to wear leatard and tights (it was a professional school). OMG!! But I loved it. After the first few classes with gitters I got comfortable with my body and movement (not that I was any good). If I were to do it again, I would take 10 weeks of streatching before I signed up for ballet classs. It will make you more comfortable and give you a better leg to dance on. The instructor taught the french voculablary along with the steps and movements. While practicing at home so much, I taught my dog up, down, lay and walk in a circle in french. He was better at it than I was!!! Sorry to hijack the post with my long ballet story. |
