Default 499 Members!

I just noticed that there are now 499 members here at jetgirls! WOW!!

Not real news worthy I suppose this holiday week, I just found that figure really neat. Now I just wonder who number 500 will be.

Yeah- you're gaining on me... especially since I've been too busy to post as much as before!

As for the Jetgirls members, in my 4.5 yrs on the board I've seen a lot of members come and go! Most for some reason don't stick around for a long period of time and post actively.

If we used the same "pay it forward" mentality as JC does, then it'd probably b more active but we don't really have a *way* of making that happen...

If people read here long enough they'd know that we DO have a "pay it forward" mentality here. Myself and DH have learned a lot about other airlines (QOL, etc.) from the ladies here. My DH wouldn't have even known to post on JC if I hadn't come here and he's met so many wonderful people who've offered to help him move forward.

I've had numberous ladies here PM me with questions about different airlines, cargo flying, schedules, QOL, etc.

DH has even helped a few of the other JG's DH's through training, etc.

And hey! We have a recipe section too! LOL!

I wonder if a lot of it has to do with the fact that women usually seek out these kinds of forums because they're having difficulty with their relationship with a pilot and want a place to vent about it. But once they read here and see that we aren't ALL unhappy about what our DH's do, think it's not a place for them.

If any of the above people are lurking, please feel free to post! Venting is o.k. too! We all do it.... occassionally.

I think there's a lot of truth to that! Although, I don't think that they leave because they see that we're all generally happy for the most part - I think it's more of them getting help with their problems and then not sticking around. Like they don't need someone to talk to while they're happy in their relationships, only when things are bad. I have a friend like that - you hear from her mostly when she's in crisis... it's never any good news or let's get together for the hell of it and have a nice dinner. Fortunately she's getting better... she was really sucking the life out of me!!

Well, since I'm relatively new I can share my impressions/experience w/ jetgirls. I was ecstatic when I found this forum, designed for, though not exclusive to, airline pilot wives/SOs. I had found one other similar forum on cafemom, and its good too, but not as active (plus, I'm not a mom yet). I've learned LOADS from both forums.

Fiance` and I are just starting out on this path and I know no other people in our area in the same boat. So gleaning info from women of experience has been paramount. I've lurked back into old threads to read about important aspects of the job and affects on the relationship. I've posted some important logistical questions for my fiance` and I. I've not been disappointed w/ any content, whatsoever.

My only negative impression of jetgirls isn't really something unique to this forum ... it happens all throughout life. B/c the forum has been around for many years, aside from member join date, its easy to tell who has been around the block for a while. In a clique-ish sense, I feel like those members support each other more than some newer members are supported. Perhaps that is another reason some members do not stick around. However, turn around is fair play. Those that have been active members for a while may be less prone to open up and support a new member that will be gone in a month anyway.

I disagree with that... I think that when it comes to real "issues" that everyone is treated pretty much the same. I really don't see where a new member hasn't gotten the same amount of support as anyone else. I think that most everyone loves it when there are new members because there are new ideas and personalities.

Just my two cents.
