| Hey there. I'm looking for a book to take with me to the hospital when I have this baby. Believe it or not, there is some down time to be filled or at least there was when DS was born and for me reading is crucial to combat feeling totally overwhelmed. Anyway, here's what I'm looking for. I need a book that is not too emotional -god knows I'll be emotional enough, but not necessarily humorous. And it has to take some thought to read. Normally, I'm a easy read, murder mystery type person. I don't want to think too much about what I'm reading. I like Nora Roberts, Catherine Coulter's FBI series, Suzanne Brockman, Iris Johanson etc. I've read Janet Evanovich but she's a little too trite. James Patterson is a little too easy and predictible. But, when I had DS I read Dan Brown's first book, (darn that estrogen, I can't think of the name!). It was very different than I usually read, without anything too provocative, but still took some thought. Plus he mentions my hometown in it! LOLI thought about Seatclutchers book, but with DH's military background and some dear friends still serving I think it might be a little too emotional for me. I also thought about the new book by the Kite Runner's author but I think that will be too deep. I know I'm being really picky, but any suggestions? Jackie |

| Mine would be a bad idea for your purposes, you are very right. But, I do recommend it for some day! ![]() Hm - easy, interesting, not too emotional read... Stuff by Nelson DeMille is fun and exciting and easy and not too predictable (he wrote The General's Daughter, which ended up being a movie with John Travolta). The main character in each book tends to be a smart ass, too, which makes them fun to read. (Don't get Up Country, though. Unless you feel like reading an extensive history on the Vietnam war.) My favorite DeMille was ... oy. I like a lot of them. Plum Island is fun - it's about buried treasure.

| I've just read a wonderful book called The House At Riverton - can't remember who it's by. It's British, though - not sure if you can get hold of it in the states.. |

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | I just finished reading Plain Truth by Jodi Picolt (sp?) It's not one to take when you're going to have a baby, but it's incredibly interesting story about the Amish and their values - it gets pretty emotional though! Otherwise, for murder mysteries have you tried Baladucci? He's my new favorite guy ![]() |

| Admin/Owner ![]() | I like a good smut book myself.... but other than that, why not a fiction book about organizing your life or a parenting book on how to handle 2 vs 1 and the easy things you can do to make life easier? yeah, might be a bit boring but it'll help you sleep AND get ready to deal with this new change! ![]()

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | I like Emily Giffen's books. One is "something borrowed" and another is "baby proof". They are both good, and she has another one I have not read yet. I would recomment "something borrowed". Its chick lit I guess you would say. Nanny Diaries is good, too! I don't think either of those two are too dramatic.

| Have you read any of Jenny McCarthy's books? They are humorous. I read Belly Laughs when I was preg. She has two others out too.
