| I am wanting to try it myself, and need some advice. No grays or anything, but I want to try something new. I am like a mid to dark blonde and want a change without paying 120.

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | I have messed mine up SEVERAL times and ended up paying way more for "corrective" color. Not to mention the entire day in a salon, and still not great looking hair after if it was stripped or fried. If you are going more than a few shades away from your natural color go to the salon. Oh and if you are going darker, it will be permenant even if it says it will be temporary. I found that out the hard way, haha.

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | I do mine. I paid someone to do it one time, told her to match the color and add some very subtle highlights. Four hours later, I had white stripes across my head. A trip to Walmart and $3 later and it was back to how I do it myself in the first place. Probably won't ever pay someone to do it ever again, when I can do it just fine for $3 or less. |

| Jetgirls Member | I've been coloring mine for years on my own. Other than once when I was in high school, I've never had a problem. I only do a single color on it though and don't get all fancy with highlights or multiple colors. I could probably do them on someone else though. I go from dark blond to bright red. Start simple with a temporary color to see if you like it and how well your hair takes it. Are you thinking of going lighter or darker? Kim

| I have done both. I like to go to the salon and have it done, but it costs an arm and a leg ![]() Recently I have been doing my own. However, it is close to what my natural hair color. I have had very bad experiences trying something new on my own. During High School, I tried to dye it a dark brownish red (natural hair color is a medium brown) It ended up turning my hair purple I then tried for a ligher blond with some redish tint. After I was done I ended up turning into Carrot Top![]() Here is my advise. If you just want something just a little different, do it yourelf. It will save you time and money and it shouldnt(in theory) do anything too bad to your hair. If you want a big difference (like dark blonde to a dark brown or red) I say go to a salon. They will be able to give you advise on what would look good on you and you are more likely to get the color that you want. Also if you are thinking about going red, I would only do it as a highlight, not as a main color. Red hair dye does not stay in your hair as long as the other colors ( I was surprised when my hairstylist told me that) Good luck ![]() |

| I do my own color. I have since high school and we wont' go into how long ago that was...LOL. It's easy. Just remember if you like it and want to keep the color, when you do the roots, only spread the color through the rest of your hair every other time. The first touch up do only roots, the second touch up, do roots then during the last ten minutes draw the color through the rest of your hair to touch it up. I hope that made sense... ![]()

| Jetgirls Plus Member ![]() | I've done my own color a few times and have learned something from each time. One, birth control can change the color. Boy can it change, lol. Two, hormones from Pregnancy can change the color. Three, a new color from what you actually have can really change the color of what the box actually shows. Four, it costs way too much money to get it fixed professionally! BUT... I do love when I desprately need to get my hair done, can't get in to the salon, try to play hairdresser and even do the hi lights, and it works!

| Jetgirls Plus Member ![]() | The gals on Saturday will see how badly I messed mine up by doing it myself. It turned purple then I dyed brown on top to cover it, then added some fake highlights. Yes, I know it sounds bad! My hair is waaaay too dark right now AND I need a haircut. It is true about red- I would definitely get it done professionally. All I can say is I think I'm going to pay the money next time and have it done so it looks natural!

| Jetgirls Ol' School Member | Mine was bright orange and part blonde and other colors, it was awful. Then before I dyed it black and it would not wash out and I didn't want it forever, it was way too dark. I had to get it stripped that time, or it would have never been right. The orange was the most recent. She highlighted 4 colors over it to try and even it out and then put a darker rinse over it to cover up some of the orange. Now I have horrible roots all over instead of just having roots from the highlights. So how I am stuck going more frequently. It was so fried I got it cut soon after that because it was SO fried, and I wanted to get it cut anyway. I will post a pic of it soon, too, I keep forgetting! I LOVE the cut though. Kinda like Posh, but a little different and not the same color. Its not that hard to fix actually. I'm very happy with it. Once I get it colored and cut again I will take a pic. Dh gave me a hole in the head for my birthday, so once it heals I will get it done haha. /hijack
