Default I hate my job. . . no I don't.

I am so frustruated. I hate my job right now. We are in the process of building budgets (I am an accountant). I am working with a field (for the first time) that is impossible. They treat us like servants and talk about us like we are not in the room. My boss has no backbone and won't stand up to them and tell them to shut up and sit down that we are saving their butts. The director of finance is no better, she is all about customer service and being the budget cheerleader.

I got so mad on Wednesday that I gave my two week notice. I did it very quitely. No scene involved. Everyone is so focued on the budgets there was no time to discuss. Went back to my work and continued to give 110%.

Had some time to think things over this weekend. (Hubby's ok with whatever I decied). But I am regretting giving notice. I am still upset with the situation, but I don't want to quit. I think that I am going to have to swallow my pride and go talk to my boss and retract my notice (if possible). Just not sure how to go about it.

I have been with the company almost 4 years (in this industry, it is practically a record). I have recieved several promotions and many raises and bonuses. I have never gave notice before. My boss and I don't really get along but there is some respect between us. I hope I haven't shattered that, it is a very fragile thing still (she and I have only been working together since Jan and we had major problems at first.)

Pride goes before a fall. How do I fix this situation?

I feel your pain. It's a horrible situation you face.

Unfortunately, if they haven't countered, they were probably feeling the same strain in the relationship. They may not accept a retraction. But, you have nothing to lose and all to gain in either keeping the job or at least parting on a very favorable way.

I have never given notice here before, so I am not sure of the process. . .

We have been off site, not in the office for past two weeks of budget build. The set up we are in is a classroom setting, with my boss in the role of a teacher, ie standing up front with budgets on the overhead projector for the entire 10 hour work day. I gave her the notice, like a student handing in homework. The classroom had my three staff members and four field people also. It was loud, many discussions going on at once.

My boss had not been back to the office. I called HR and they called me back. They set up a meeting to discuss on Tuesday.

My group is back to the office and working like normal on Monday (though HR is not working on holiday). I don't know whether to talk to my boss on Monday (just me and her) or if I should hold it for the meeting with HR on Tuesday.

It is not about money. I want the issues addressed. I don't know how to stress that.

We didn't talk (not a single word) when I turned in the notice. As I was handing it to her, a field person was yelling at me to make a note of something and another field person was yelling at her to show them something else on the overhead.

Good luck. I'd just go in and be honest. And if you want to emphasize what you see as a problem that you think needs fixing, do it - emphasize it. You've already quit...what do you have to lose?

Talked to my boss today one on one. She understood the situation with my notice. She told me that she didn't want to lose me. (This in its self is ground breaking, in light of our rocky mountian beginnings.) She was ok (dare I say relieved, she is so very hard to read) with me retracting my notice. She has to talk to the director of finance, but the director I am not too worried about. (The director calls me one of her childern and even called me personally to see how everything is going since she was taking the day off. )

My lesson learned is decisions made in haste ruin a good weekend of leisure with regret.

I almost learned that lesson too (about making decisions too quickly).

I recently applied for a supervisor job in my dept. I know I have a lot to offer the position but my lack of self confidence was ruining me! In my head I thought about my competition and how I get tongue tied in interviews and I was about to pull my application (a big no-no here!).

I took the weekend and decided that I have nothing ot lose! I may not get the job but I need to at least TRY.

I am glad I didn't pull my application last week. For some reason I feel a lot more confident this week!

I can't imagine you had a lack in confidence! You seem So confident in everything else, like being alone and in your relationship. I hope I can be half as confident as you are when my dh is on the road for days at a time. If you can do it, I can do it, too!

Good luck with your interview! I have one next week, not really a big interview, but more pay and a better company (I think!)

I know I know! EVERYONE tells me I am nuts about being nervous about the interview! I am confident about so many things... it's just these dang interviews that cause problems. Nick doesn't even know what to say. He is SOOOO supportive but he hates seeing me down on myself.

Interviews are no fun.. I just applied for an internal job in a different city (ATL) and I am really dreading the interview... I don't know if I have enough administrative experience, I've only had my job for 5 months! It would be a promotion, but there is the whole "different city" factor that makes me nervous having never lived anywhere else...

But anyway, Good luck, Amanda, I have a feeling you'll do great...
