| You should never feel ashamed about that Tanya! That was one of the programs some of us activists fought to keep when the Reagan administration was looking to cut spending. At that time it cost all of $1 MM to feed all those kids and moms and they wanted to eliminate it! When I was laid off from a bank job in 1990 in a massive layoff, they had given our info to the unemployment office in advance. So when I went there, they just referred to the list and it was automatic. That was a nice gesture. They also gave us outplacement services to help us through the process. It ticks me off that no one did any of that in this case. To this day, even if we're firing someone for being a nincompoop, we treat them with respect and give them the information on unemployment, COBRA, 401(k) transfer, etc. Of course that is because the HR Director in my company believes in doing that. No one ever did it before this HR Director arrived. |
