Add in some strength training. It will tone up your muscles and improve your posture. Don't get overly concerned about the pounds, though. Muscle weighs more than fat. So as you tone up, you will be dropping sizes and might stay the same weight.

I''m in too. I put on so much weight this past year that I am heavier than I was pregnant!! I have been walking every day for 6 days now and trying to eat more balanced. I know my weakness is SUGAR and snacking late at night.

I have the same weakness. Love the sugar -- cake, cookies, pie -- love them all.

I've promised myself not to eat after 8pm.
I've found myself the last 2-3 months "checking" out the refrigerator about 11pm - like something was going to magically appear.
Now I'm scared because I've heard that Taco Bell might be built about 3 miles away. Can you say dangerous??!!!!

You've got to get the sugar out of your system. Eating it makes you crave it. If you don't eat it, you don't crave it.

Keep healthy snacks in the house. Celery and hummus is a wonderful snack because it's filling, protein and low in calories with zero carbs.

Also, add whole grains into your diet. They fill you up, contain lots of good stuff, take more energy to digest and aren't converted to sugars the way refined flour, rice, etc are. They are also more flavorful. So, if you're cooking whole wheat pasta, it goes better with a more flavorful sauce.

Last night I made a great side dish to go with the marinaded grilled shrimp. I made pearl barley and roasted one ear of corn. I mixed the two together. Then I made a dressing from 1/3 cup of fresh basil leaves emulsified with white balsamic vinegar, olive oil and a pinch of salt. I stirred it all up and added some fresh off the vine Jersey tomatoes. Then I garnished it with some more basil. It was yummy, summery and full of whole grain goodness!

Really? My huge thing is also candy, cake, cookies...growing up I was kinda heavy, so now I have this misperception of things...I'm 5'6'' and 135...I know I am by no means overweight, I just want tone up on one trouble spot, my midsection too...I run, when not running I do cardio, free weights, and vary with exercise, and am usually there 4 times a week...I eat relatively 'good' meaning I limit sweets, fast food, rare late night snacking, and just overall watch my calorie intake, so I don't know what's going on...but I'll chime in on this weight loss challenge...

I'm in. I've started working out 3 or so days a week. I am hoping to eventually do more, but my work schedule is shifting around, so once I get settled into the 3 days then I will add more. I'm trying to not snack as much, too. It is hard but I really want to stick to it this time. Sweets are my big thing, too. I could live on doughnuts and cake and pasteries.

Once we move back to CVG (October or so) I'll be your motivation, Jen! I need someone to work out with me! When we left there was a new gym opening near the new Walmart on Houston that was like $20/mnth no contract. I think I might check that one out. I was going to Silverlake (on Dixie) but $50/month is just too much! And I wasn't crazy about the 1 year contract that you can NOT get out of unless you move. Luckily for us, we did move which is how I got out of it!

I saw that gym (by Walmart) the other day.
We were members at Silverlake this past year. It was great - when we made it out there! I know you can buy a pass at the Y - in Burlington and use it towards their classes. I did that with a girlfriend two years ago. We took kickboxing classes -- I thought I was going to die!!!!!!!
I live in a community that has walking trails, a tennis court and a basketball court. (We have 2 pools but I never go because I'm too fat and too pale.) We could always go walking or play tennis, weather permitting of course.
Let me know when you get back into town. I'll be here.
Jen

I've been trying to work out on the eliptical at least 20 mins a day. I've also bought a pedometer and am trying to get in 10,000 steps a day.
I love pilates, but haven't had the time to do a dvd/tape workout. But there's a new pilates studio near my house and I'm dying to try it!
Good luck everyone.
Jen
ya know.. i just don't get pilates...what exactly does it accomplish?! flexibility or actual weight loss?
