Default Shark show on Discovery channel

Did any of you catch the special "Ocean of Fear: Worst Shark Attack Ever" on Discovery on Sunday?
Here's what it was about:
A dramatic documentary featuring the story of the of the USS Indianapolis in World War II. Explore the sinking and the horrifying shark attacks that cost hundreds of soldiers' lives.

We watched it and it was really interesting but gruesome what happened to all of those men! They got picked off one by one by the hundreds of sharks in the water.

I started to fall asleep towards the end (busy day and I was exhausted) so I'm going to have to replay the last 30 minutes.

I'm a huge discovery channel nerd and I am a sucker for shark week!
So of course I was watching last night…
It's intriguing that we have different ideas of that show... you got that the sharks were picking off people one by one, but I didn't get the same impression. From what I got from the program, there were groups of people who hardly saw any sharks the entire time, but that one group was continually bothered by the sharks. I think that some of those people may have been attacked, and of course those who were already injured were most likely to become dinner. A lot of the people interviewed said that for the most part, the sharks were eating the dead. Some of that may have been towards the end of the program, though… I can't remember. You should watch the whole thing from the beginning and see what you think this time. Brian and I thought it was more of the entire story of the sailors suffering through exposure, lack of food & water, and that the sharks were almost secondary. Of course if it were me, I doubt that I would have even survived in the water for 2 days… and I would be more than a little freaked out by the sharks in the water. It's amazing that there were any survivors!
On a side note, have you seen Air Jaws?? One of my lifetime goals is to go to South Africa and see the Great Whites breach in real life… I think that would be an amazing experience. I find sharks both terrifying and fascinating.

I watched it for a while last night - poor seals! that's all I have to say - poor seals! I loved that the guys on the boat saved one of them. Little bugger fought like crazy, flipping all over the place to avoid a shark. I think he earned his help from the humans.

No more shark week for me, though. I can't handle watching the prey become...well...prey. I hate the sharks for killing the seals, and then I hate the humans for hunting the sharks. Vicious cycle!

Yeah I agree. I saw a shart eating a cute little sea turtle and I was done. I know its the natural food chain, but I don't really like watching the food chain happen. I like some of the shark week, but not when they are eating cute sea creatures. Same with like tigers. I love anything about tigers and big cats, but I can't stand watching when they tear down the gazelles and rip them apart.

My parents, dh, and I watched the show. My grandparents used to play cards with two of the survivors, so is is always interesting to see how it is being portrayed.

What did you think?

BTW, if anyone saw their special last night... if you're going to buy a wetsuit, buy a black one. Yellow was the worst for shark attacks, based on their little survey among great whites!! LOL

I thought it was interesting. One of the guys that spoke (for a short time) is one of the ones my grandpa played with. It seems to portray what I have been told about the event through my dad.

Have you all been watching the shark shows most nights?

Here's what I'm wondering... in a lot of these shows, they're feeding the sharks?!!? Okay, what if the sharks start to associate people with food? Wouldn't that not be helping any shark attack problems?? If someone gets in the water near wherever they're feeding the sharks, sharky might get a little PO'd if we don't throw him some fish!!!

Did anyone watch Talk Soup this weekend? it was hilarious when it came to "shark week"...what's his name (the host of the show) brought on a clip of the two guys who were wading with the sharks (no protection, just shorts on) and he started with one little clip then stopped and said "you do know what's going to happen, don't you".. and then he'd show another segment of the clip saying "you DO know what's going to happen, don't you"...then he'd show another clip saying "yup, we all know it's gonna happen" (or something to that effect), then show the guy getting bit by a shark... like NO DUH! it was SOOOO funny.
